Casual Codex in 47 days

When I finished Parlin's Codex of Power 2 last month on Mar 14th, I looked back at the records I keep to see when I started and was pretty disapointed to find that it took me almost 4 months to Complete that tome.

I consider myself a casual player, but 4 months was still a bit much. I thought of what I had been doing for those 4 months and decided I could reorganize my play time to make the most of it and vastly improve my completion time for Codex 3. I would concentrate on XP and not worry much about loot to see how much more quickly I could get through it.

I usually don't get to play for long stretches at a time so raiding is pretty much out of the question, and even a lot of grouping isn't in the cards either. Playing on weekends is usually pretty much impossible for me as well but sometimes I do manage to sneak in some time here and there. So, mostly I am forced to box and solo.

I set my goal at 2% a day for Codex 3, hoping to be able to complete it in 50 days. I tracked my progress each day and actually finished today, 3 days ahead of schedule.

I discovered that in the right zone I could effectively solo and gain 0.50% (One half of a percent) in a codex in roughly 30 minutes. So, all I needed was about 4 or 5 of these sessions each day to accomplish my goal.

I have about 6 different zones where I can efficiently solo for xp, and to make things easier I set up hotkeys to do a /w all for each zone to know where to go and get there fast. Another advantage is having a lot of gate clickys and alts that can port of course.

I am not posting this to boast, and I am not trying to belittle the accomplishments of those who raid and group. I know that raiding and grouping are by far more efficient in advancing your toon and wish that I could raid and group more often myself.

I just wanted to post this as encouragement for those people like me who LOVE the game, but just cant dedicate long hours at a single setting to it. You can still advance your character.

It's easy to see a codex of power and think "this is in surmountable".

This perception doesn't change when you see "200 AAs" or the more accurate "110 AAs" or even the "about 38,100,000 experience points for neutral racial exp mod races" lengths.

I found that setting an attainable daily experience goal was the most effective way to grind without getting a sense of "I have to do more". Your 2% goal, about 762000 exp, is a pretty good one.

I've heard there are some parsers out there that track the "You gain ____ experience!" messages, and if you can see that daily cumulative progress towards the number 762000 (or whatever goal you have set for the day), then it all feels like steady progress.

All in all, well done, Parlin.

I'm pretty much the opposite, but grats to finding a way to feel out progress.

I did things like get 70% of a CoP in one sitting, and grind out 13 tomes in a double exp weekend, but I ran out of things to do other than raid, so maybe your way is better =]

Any relation to parlan who I've bought like 50k of BBRs from?

I've done basically a whole codex in one shot and since I am unwilling or unable to do that now, I have entirely stopped playing.

For this reason I commend your measured approach to gaming, internet person.

Congrats on your achievement, I also know the joy of soloing a codex. Out of curiosity when you made that post a long time ago about charms, which one did you end up buying?

@Tao... Thanks, and it's neat to see someone else particular about stuff like this as I am =)

@Solosolki ... Yes. Parlan Blackstone (Necro) makes the potions, Parlin Whitestone (Pally) buys and farms the Mystic Ash.

@Otcho... I bought the Holy Charm of Protection. The Runes of Healing worked out great for me. btw.. have since graduated to Eternal Charm, which is one of the reasons it took me so long to finish Codex 2.

@Fuwok.. ahhh hope you dont quit. I am still looking for the spot in MielC where you were slaughtering hundreds of undead Frogs. I think I may be ready for them now.
