Cannot run EQ on new machine

Ok, so I've been playing SoD on my very old (4-5 year old HP) computer and for christmas I got a brand new nie and shiny laptop.

When I start SoD, I can log into the account page, and I can select the SoD Malath server. When I hit enter to join that server or when i click join server, either way my screen goes to desktop with a small black box up in the top-left corner and a minute later I get an message saying eqgame.exe has crashed and am asked to send an error report.

I can run the game same in EQWindows, its when I try to play the game regularly, the way I want to, that it crashes. I have a Centrino Duo processor at 2.22 GHz and a NVidia 7950 GO GS graphics card, 2gigs memory, XP SP2.

If it really can't be fixed, which I doubt, I can still play in EQW, I just really dislike it.

Re: Cannot run Game on new machine

Fixed - I tried the 5e error instructions, and those didn't work. Then I realized I missed a big part of the set-up process for SoD - I had forgotten to copy/paste sodbin and sod into the EverQuest folder, I had simply pathed them to it =/

Re: Cannot run Game on new machine

Ok I guess I should have tried the game before I assumed my faulty installation was the culprit, still getting the same errors and problems even after I installed it right.

[Sun Jan 07 12:30:17 2007]00039:WorldAuthenticate. I got a message of type 5e...

Re: Cannot run Game on new machine

If I were you I'd run SoD with EQW, since you have a dual-core processor you'll need to set the affinity on Game and sod bin to 1 cpu.

Read this thread: http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/forum/index.php?topic=7086.0

It'll show you how to use imagecfg, which allows you to permanently set the CPU affinity for a .exe.

Also don't use EQplaynice with your laptop, since mobile processors have speed step, it'll interfere with EQplaynice and cause major performance issues.
