Cannot connect to server

Okay topic says it but here is the detail:

I open sodpatch.exe or whatever its called it patches launches and i get to the login screen, I try to not login and whaddaya know, I can't login. It says could no tocnnect to server try again shortly etc.....I dunno whats wrong can someone please help me out. I read the FAQ, tried changing my eqhost.txt file, opened ports, diabled firewall. Whats up? is the server down?
 
Yes, the server is down. Check IRC for the best source of information reguarding server status. (link to IRC on the main page)
 
My only problem is for some reason i can never connect to any IRC server, I alwasy get "Software caused connection abort" and thats form like ports 6661-6669. And most IRC servers are 6667, and I dunno whats up with that iether. I opened up orts disabled firewalls, etc....but still doesn't work so I won't be able to know whether or not the server is up
