can i create an evil char (eg. an Iksar) and change to good?

hello all! i never played EQ before, (i currently play ultima online on the 'official' servers) and i'm wondering if i could create an evil character such as an iksar and become good? i usually don't play evil characters. either neutral or good but i think EQ doesn't have neutral.
 
Alignment isn't really race based here. Certain races tend more towards evil, yeah, but everyone starts neutral.
 
thats awesome to know, yet i already played some emu servers and knew that you most of the time started nuetral, but wow, factioning works fast, even faster on some emus for negative faction mind you, hehe, went into paludal, everything nuetral, killed 15 of them, maxed out my negative faction super kos =P ... then again some servers purposely make some factions kos, i remember on krushers smei legit, everything in PC was nuetral to me except for the fungus and weird insect digger things, oh and fiends, but the bandits were perfectly cool with me, it was a very ironic experience compared to live, hehe, sorry, this wasn't entirely revelent to this post, i can delete this reply if neccessary
