Boxing?

Boxing is not necessary, but it is allowed.

But no more then 2 toons at a time, any time, under any condition.

It's not a requirement, but its damned useful. And having a healer pretty much means you can group on desire.

Even if you box a fishing bot while you play your main, boxing is very useful. I use a timing program called Time after Time and setup a recurring timer to beep when the fishing macro is over. Very easy to manage.

I'm pretty sure what Ellman02 is describing is considered unattended macroing and against the rules.

How is it unattended if he is sitting at his computer? If he passes macro checks then he is obviously paying enough attention.

I think the rules forbid using any third party program/mechanical device.

To get rid of this third party program, you could change the last line in your fishing macro to something like
Code:
/t othercharname Fishing macro has completed
.

Whether or not that is also considered unattended macroing, I am not sure.

Situation: you press the macro, ignore that box the entire time of your casts, and come back at the end. That's considered unattended macroing. Don't get caught.

Stop embarassing yourselves and learn the rules. They're listed for you in great detail.

What Ellman02 described with the third party program is bannable. Don't do that, and if you've been doing that, I'd suggest stopping now that I'm back from the holidays.

As far as using in-game hotbuttons to remind your second box that the hotbutton has completed, that's fine. Just make sure you're keeping an eye on that second window when you get that tell. If you were to receive an automated unattended macroing test or a manual check from me personally... and then you didn't check the screen (for reasons including but not limited to being mezzed on your other character or going to the bathroom IRL), then you'd be guilty of unattended macroing.

Make sure you keep an eye on that screen. The use of a multi-cast hotbutton is convenient, but the intent is that you aren't just doing something else and letting a program do everyting for you without you babysitting it.

Really, a timer is against the rules? This is the program I'm talking about.

Here is the "rules" page on the main site about 3rd party programs.

---
Third Party Programs
Any third-party programs that is designed to alter the client, sniff or alter the data communication between client and server, or automate any task within the client are expressively forbidden. Log parsers are OK.
---

This program just plays a sound file every X minutes. It doesn't read the information from the game that your fishing macro is finished. It is completely independent of the game. It just reminds you that 2 minutes or whatever has passed. It does not automate anything. You still have to switch over to your fishing bot and press your fish macro.

Stop cheating at the game!

Really, you are only cheating yourself. The unbridled joy one experiences while staring at the screen for the dozens (hundreds?) of hours it takes to skill fishing up is quality gaming time you can never get back.

never worry about server fundage again

These are two very different things. At any rate, you are expected to keep a very close eye on the screen while you fish. This is what is meant by "attended". Failure to do so would be fishing "unattended".

As long as you're keeping a close eye on the fishing screen, you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah i first read it as you had integrated something with the client too -

An egg timer is fine as long as you are vigilant in your fishing! We wont go after you for taking 5-10 seconds to respond the first time or two but we really are quite serious about keeping automation out of our game (and more importantly its economy).

Y'know, just throw up an AFK message "taking a poop" when you're doing that. You can change it back to whatever is normal. I guarantee the GMs (well, Tao at least) can figure out what's happening when their tell to you gives them a different AFK message.
