Boxing Hard Reset

peligro

Dalayan Beginner
Hey guys,

Thank you in advance for any advice you can throw my way.

Issue: Roughly 30 seconds to 10 mins after both characters have loaded into the game, my computer hard restarts. I've applied the application compatibility tool, and I do NOT need to be alt tabbing for the error to occur. It only seems to happen while boxing.

Computer information - Running XP SP3, 8800gt, 4gbs of ram, creative x-fi titanium, and a q6600. System is on water and after looking at all tempuratures throughout my system I can conclude it is not a heating issue. All other games and applications run smoothly and I do not ecounter this crash while doing anything else. I've checked the administative event viewer and cannot confirm any abnormal or consistent activity prior to the crash outside of running EQ. I am running EQW and have the screens overlapping eachother if that makes any difference. Trying to give you guys as much info as possible. Please let me know if supplying driver data would help in this troubleshoot.

Best,
Peligro

Does this happen while playing (multiple instances of) other games to? Should try that out to see if you can pinpoint this as 'only' happing while u play SoD!

Haven't tested it while running multiple copies of the same game, however I have tried running multiple games at the same time. While I know this is not the same thing, to me it is one step in the direction of it being an SoD issue.

Might be an issue with my sound card in that running sound in both windows could cause some form of corruption. Is there a way to have sound dissable in a window while alt tabbed out of it?

Hmm, sound shouldnt be the problem. But, for your question, no. You cannot mute sound of client A while you alt-tab to client B. You would have to terminate sound/music output for a client altogether!

I've had this happen a few odd times, only while running Duel SoDs. Its very unpredictable however and never saw any pattern. Litteral could go weeks and then suddenly have it happen 2 times in 10 minutes *shrug*.

Try rolling back your video drivers to ones that work best for the 8800gt. Google Best drivers for 8800gt. There are some out there that are even modded by people and work fantastic. For example...my 6600gt is now using the 77.77 modded version and I gained 30fps in CS:S. And SOD runs amazing now when dual boxing. Its a thought. Try it out. Newest drivers aren't always the best.

Are you using EQplaynice?

Haven't treid copying the directories but will give that a shot tonight. Also, as to the driver issue. I'm sure I am not the only person here running on an 8800gt. Anyone know of stable drivers for this particular card? I'm not currently running physx or any particular driver for any particular reason so changing to another one is of no issue.

On another note, some on in game mentioned changing game screens by pressing Ctrl + Alt + S. Is there any way to change this key combo, as maybe alt tabbing does having something to do with the issue in my particular case.

Going to be removing my sound card tonight to see if that also contributes to the issue.

Thanks for all of your input, and hopefully I will be seeing you guys online soon.

The only thing I can add is that it may be a hardware conflict (very rare anymore, but I had issues with it recently). I would get hard resets when doing 2 or more programs that were graphicly oriented (2 internet browsers wouldn't trigger it, but having a 2 video games, or photo editors etc would cause a hardware conflict.)

My solution was to go into device manager and view the properties of the card and there was an option to route it to new settings (irq settings and the such).

Fixed me right up.

Guess it was an affinity issue. I had different boxes running on different cores. Played stable after assigning them to just one. Thanks again for the help and input guys. See you around.
