Block Question

Does anyone know the rough percentage X block skill provides in damage avoidance against a 65 or 68? Assuming I have max shield mastery and a 70ac shield. If you do have the numbers, do you know what parry/dodge/riposte provide as one of the tank classes?

If not, I will figure them out once I get my pally up to 65.

Thanks guys

Here's a parse of from when I was tanking folerit redsun in a pug on a t11 or so warrior.
He has +20 parry, +4 dodge, +5 riposte. I blew /s 8 on engage and shielded the rest of the way (like 85% down).

Tanking summary for: --- Total damage: 228891 --- Avg hit: 331 --- Swings: 1354 --- Defended: 394 (29.1%) --- Hit: 690 (51%) --- Missed: 270 (19.9%) --- Accuracy: 71.9% --- Dodged: 87 (8.3%) --- Parried: 103 (8.4%) --- Blocked: 122 (9%) --- Riposted: 82 (7.3%) --- Absorbed: 0 (0%)

Not the largest sample size, but it seems like the benefit from even +25 would only be 1-2% chance to avoid a hit.

Did you swap in a shield at some point on that warrior? If so what AC was the shield?

And yeah, doesn't look like +parry/dodge/ect makes much of a difference. Wonder how big of a diffierence shield mastery makes. Sounds like it adds 50% more avoidance from block.

Haha! I completely missed that tid bit. But the AC information helps.

So with a 90ac shield, if you had kept it on the entire fight your block would have been roughly 10.6%. That's not bad, means a shield adds quite a bit of avoidance in addition to the mitigation boost from it's AC.

Can warriors typically swap to shield like that or is this an exception?

You can swap after building some initial aggro. Some shields have bash procs that add hate so thats useful too. I wouldn't recommend starting off with a sheild unless you are offtanking a 2pull or something

OR you can use living shield, tell your DPS to pay attention, and hit that bash button, b/c it's aggro with or without a proc....but yeah warrior aggro is pretty shady either way
