Blast from the past

Hello, I was looking for some EQ realms to bring back some of the old memories of live. This place seems to be very lively which is a good start, does this place have the Epic weapon quests in it? and I was considering making 1 of 3 classes any suggestions would be helpful, it's been umm 10 years since my last EQ dose.

I should include the classes *shakes head*
Monk
Bard
BST
Unless some guys have hints as to what would mesh with the realm and possible guild needs.

You've certainly come to the right place! There are some differences between SOD and EQ "Live" which are discussed here:

http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Differences_between_SoD

I'd also suggest checking out other parts of the community wiki. Choose the class that you'd like to play, but there is always a need for tanks and clerics. You can play two characters at once on this server (on different accounts) which would help with leveling when not able to find a group.

Cool thanks for the response, clerics hmm i may try one of those never had one before, even with live but played a warrior sk and paladin before. I'm so lose as to what I could box I dont know what has good min/max ability and if Monk/BST/Bard duo's with anything well, so advice for an out of work brain?

I also read there are no epic's, however are they items that use maybe the same skin. I was a huge fan of the graphic's that came with the epic weapons.

As far as I can tell every epic weapon skin is used at some place in the game. Not necessarily limited to the original class, and ususlly not until later in the game though.

Incoming Generic Advice:

Healer + Tank/melee DPS = good box

Whatever Tank/DPS strikes your fancy and for heals...
Druid is going to give the most convenience for leveling
Cleric is going to get you into a guild most easily
Shaman is somewhere inbetween

BST/DRU or BRD/CLR or MNK/SHM or some mix of those would be a good starter box.

Dangerous Truthiness:
Be weary of rolling a Tank. Gearing them up to useful is a task and many would prefer getting account info on an already good tank to dealing with some newb tank.

Once again thanks a bunch, it has been so long since I have played EQ in general im sure SoD is even more a complete turn around, I suppose I will start with Bard/Cleric, and eventually try a Monk/Shaman just to see where my feet fill comfortable being wet.

Thanks again

What I love about SoD vs "Old"... You get a lot of the the old feel and style of play, but there is new content to explore, and tons of new and improved mechanics.

I've done the nostalgia trips through old EQ and always find that you can't relive the past.

Don't play a class just because it's "needed", play what is fun to you. There maybe more spots for clerics, but there is always a spot somewhere for a good player no matter the class.

The staff here is active and the rules enforced.

Seconding BRD/CLR or MNK/DRU

Edit: or BRD/DRU if you wanna get around REAL fast

If you plan on advancing to the deep end game I'd be wary of being a tank (they progress much more slowly as guilds tend to favor their main tank and second and third tanks get left behind on loot)

I'd also be wary of rolling a druid because it's probably by far one of the most common classes on the server.

If you want to casually group and level however, tank / healer is going to be a great bet. (Thus why there are so many tank / druid combos out there already).

I started on this server as a druid and I dropped it due to the sheer amount of druids and then I went to bard (which is great fun but it wasn't for me - he's 65 anyhow) and moved on to warrior. I joined a raiding guild and there were 3 tanks ahead of me in the loot process so I dropped my warrior for a rogue which I am extremely happy with and usually find a group with no major issues.

Bard / Cleric would be a great bet (and probably a fun combo) as bards up to 55 can easily tank most of the dungeons and in outdoor zones they can kite around and just have the cleric leech the xp.

WHen it comes time to find a guild, any and every guild on the server is recruiting clerics (ok, almost any) and bards are a MUST HAVE for t7-8+ raiding. You'd have no trouble finding a home.

Beastlord in place of the bard with a cleric box would also be very strong.

Good luck on the server, hit me up in game if you have any questions or needs. And please don't let this post discourage you from playing whatever it is you want to play - I just wanted to outline some challenges you might run into.

Thank you, I logged in for about 5 minutes and was completely lost, gonna take some good time to soak in the change. My bard is named Twistez. I can't even remember what would be fun, coming from WoW i think bard twisting might be good to keep the pace, ill have to play about until I find something. Than hopefully find him a home.

I had a ball leveling up my Dru/SK, not a super popular combo but hot damn it works! Had a BST friend along most of the time too and my god is that a powerful trio.
