Black screen after character select

Got this today 5/14/05 after patching to live. Tried to apply the various wrfix and files I downloaded to no avail.

I am going to find my backup eq folder on another pc and patch to live then apply the wr patches and see if it works like it did a few days ago.

I'm just learning this stuff...

If anyone else patched (I presume that's bad) did you also get the
black screen too?

so the solution was to

re-install eq, setup wr files and it works like a charm

I know obviously now you cannot patch to live over wr files

btw - I keep a backup eq folder just in case this happens again.
