Best way to acquire noob gear

I was wondering what the best way to get my hands on decent gear as I level up?

Should I pick up a craft to make my own or continue looking for quests that offer me some good gear?

Thanks for the input!

Find someone leveling the trade skill of gear you can use. Often they sell at half the price of other gear.

Honestly, when I was leveling up I went from soft leather type gear (droppable), to Wyvernfang quest armor (quested gear, but quest pieces droppable), to dragon/giant faction armor (quested gear - no drop pieces with proper faction). This was of course before tradeskilled items were implemented. Now that tradeskilled items are available this is really your most cost effective option:

Wyvernfang armor quest pieces being droppable again means you can do what I did! buy those and get a full set as early as possible, they are pretty good early on.

Adept mobs will yield gear that is great for the level. Wiki has some nice write ups and lists on them.

Also, there is a list of newbie quests in the tome of knowledge for various classes/towns. Good starter gear there.

When you hit the high 20's you can start working on Lake Starfall quest items. 2 peices per class. Great for the level in many cases and good write ups on the wiki.

When you hit high 40's you can begin quests in Thurgadin that give nice items that will last also. Again, written up in the wiki.

And do not forget there is the Pristine system in place. Any gear you loot yourself receives a +10% to all stats as compared to purchasing it from someone else.

haha I spent like 12pp back when i was new and wore that armor from lvl 15 to lvl 55

edit: I would recommend avoiding leveling your tradeskills yourself until you can farm money on your own without much trouble.

The biggest piece of advice I can give from my recent / current rise through newbie gear - is to just keep leveling. Don't get too focused on getting one great piece of gear at a low level. You level so quickly on SoD, and the amount of plat you earn ramps up so quickly, that it's almost pointless to try to "equip" even every 10 levels (until 50+ really). Most classes can subsist (at least in a group) in cloth/leather + newbie gear.

There are a couple of items I would HIGHLY suggest putting the effort into working on, as they will stay with you a long time if not forever.

Start working on your Newport Ring quests (check the wiki). First stage can be done solo (by most classes) by 25 or 26, and step 2 by 28-30. This is a very nice ring for the level, and once upgraded to the fifth version is fantastic.

Also, if you have the patience, do the bandit head turn ins for newport tokens to turn in for Newport Faction. Get to Ally with newport and get a GREAT neck piece for a low level that also has newport gate! Which, even once the stats are useless will continue to be useful forever.

Low-level adepts.
Simple tmaps at 20+.

They are fun and a good source of great corresponding leveled gear.

Well there are nice enough people who will take the old crap they have out of their bank and give it to you.

asking everyone if they are one of those people really isn't the way to go bro, wait for someone to show their generosity.

t-maps are your friends. They can provide all classes with a chance at upgrades as you level up.
