Well, I've been playing SoD on and off for quite a while now. When I first found this game searching through the great series of tubes known as the internets I was quite surprised to think such a thing even existed!
Of course I played EQ many years ago, probably some time close to 2002-2004, I had come to like it a lot. When mum pulled the plug on my subscription it broke my heart to not be able to play such a great game. I was quite happy when I found SoD and I frequently marvel at the fact that its basically free. [I would love to shake the hands of the team that made this possible, they definitely went through a lot of stuff to make that patcher program and to bypass a lot of Evil Sony's security or whatever.]
Just wanted to let everyone here know that though I was shocked at first at everything being a tad bit different... I really think its been worth it in the long run. Like they say, anything that is free has to be good!
Anyway, on to why I'm posting, a question if I might be so bold?
So, graphics wise the game can only be pushed so far. I don't really mind the old character models at all, but it bothers me that you can't enhance more than one race at a time. I guess I mean to say it just looks silly to take a look at an elf and have a blocky looking character, whilst right next to that blocky looking elf is a very well built human model.
Why does SoD not allow more than 2 character models to be enhanced at one time? Is it just a program element that was included to shorten lag times or something? I don't mind the old models one bit, but I always imagine that everyone else sees each other a different way in game. When you think your character looks cool in that new set of armor, the person your talking to only sees some textures painted on to your body which resembles some armor.
I suppose I'm not trying to complain, but I really just want to know more about the games graphics capabilities in a whole. I know it can do better than this, EQ classic when I played had some odds and ends that don't seem to be present with this version.
So, what's the differences that I'm missing here? I've done my research through these threads before and I haven't really found anything relevant to some in-depth discussion of the graphics here.
[by the way, what the heck is a model type called jerry's kids? Never heard of it before in me life to say the least. Could somebody fill me in?]
