The new beastlord spell from the refuge, Fury of the Wild, is an incremental dot. While ordinarily that would be useful and cool to have, because of the mana cost, relatively similar damage to a much lower level and easier to obtain spell, and generally doing less damage than venom of the wild (the beastlord staple dot), Fury of the Wild amounts to being little more than a waste of mana. To make matters worse, Rage of the Wild, its lower level counterpart, does nearly as much damage for half of the mana cost.
Parser information:
For the sake of this argument, My beastlord with 4 tomes and ae7 (I removed my poison focus for this test), does the following damage with Fury of the Wild. I had cunning on for this test:
18
57
97
135
175
216
254
-----
total 952
Under the same conditions, venom of the wild does:
188 dd
393
393
393
393
-----
total: 1760
Both of these tests assume no crits.
Venom of the Wild, although it costs 60 mana more, does nearly double the damage of fury of the wild, and is bought from players and is available without the faction questing of ikisith.
This problem is made worse considering that Beastlords get plague, which for me does around 112 damage per tick, lasting 12 ticks at the cost of 300 mana. For those keeping score at home that is 1344 damage, or approximately 40% more than Fury of the Wild at the cost of 115 less mana.
There is no situation where it would not be better to just hold off on casting Fury of the Wild in favor of re-casting Venom of the Wild after it ticks off or stacking with Plague if more DPS is required.
Can Fury of the Wild please have its damage adjusted upward to make it worth casting or have its mana cost significantly reduced so that it is more efficient to use?
Thank you for reading this long post.
edit: I would settle for some other things besides more damage, including but not limited to: jolt per tick component, overcap slow, MR debuff effect.
