BDO - anyone play?

Anyone play? Thoughts?

From what I'm hearing the major lacking factor is robust PvE, but a lot of MMO's i've played recently were lacking in the endgame PvE. Neverwinter was the big one there. By the time beta ended there was 1 endgame fight (which Arcibu taught me how to beat after like 4 attempts). A year later though and it had tons. TERA was the same. Blade and Soul I think is the same, but I never really got into it; wasn't a fan of the graphics.

This game seems to be very ambitious and very awe worthy in terms of scope; I'm sure now that it's out of beta we'll see the new classes come out and real PvE come out. I'm tempted to drop the $20 and check it out, especially since the combat is "action combat" but in a vastly different sense than TERA or Conan or NW are; think Tekken or Mortal Combat.

Day 1: loaded in, saw a mountain in the distance and started running. 30 minutes later (no zoning) I found a mining village and decided to explore. A cave in the back was radiating heat so I decided to check it out. Found a bunch of lava creatures, tried to run away. Sadly the bridge over this lava river was broken; I was trapped. Died with my back to the lava and a horde of lava monsters in front of me.

After respawning in a town 15 minutes away I decided to return to my original load in. This time I went a different direction. As I traveled through a steep mountain pass, it started to get dark. Right before sundown I came across a town beseiged by giants lobbing boulders over the walls. I was clearly not supposed to be there, so I skirted around the long way and kept going.

I was getting nervous with it being so dark (thankfully the clouds weren't out so I had the moon to light my path) that I accidentally ran into the middle of a quarry occupied by not so friendly giants. I was totally lost and just booked it. I ended up in a thick forest that blocked the moonlight and a thick fog was oozing out of the ground. Through the trees I noticed a spooky house on the edge of a hill overlooking the forest so I Scooby doo'd my way to it. This was a mistake. I should have heeded the impaled skeletons as a warning to stay far far away. Apparently this was a witches den, and they didn't appreciate me coming over uninvited. This time upon being cornered I decided to leap off the edge! My screen was pulsing bright red from nearly dying. That was enough exploring for the day.

Tl;dr: killed no mobs for a full 2 hours and had an absolute blast. The no zoning thing helps make it immeasurably more immersive, and the whole thing just felt alive.

Disclaimer: all SS's are on medium quality (cause a 660M GTX just doesn't cut it.) Also, you can put Instagram like filters over the entire game. You start off with vibrance which still looks nice, but I didn't like the color saturation being so high. So, because I felt this thing being all like, "alive" and shit, I chose the Film-whatever filter so it looks more like RL. No it doesn't change ur FPS.

Yeah I got green hair and eyes. What of it? Seriously though, I just wanted to explore so I randomly started clicking (i did make sure to make sure she had a large rack and a nice set of legs though).

Everything here that is not all foggy, that's where I explored in those first 2 hours. Looks huge right?!

I tried to capture as much of the world as possible, but couldn't fit it. I wanna check out those volcano's you can sorta see through the fog in the upper right. Also, the islands don't show up on this map.

But apparently everything else does. Temperature, humidity, weather in general all impacts your ability to run and fight and do things. I think it impacts your hired workers and your crops if you go the farm route too (don't quote me on this). Ignore Syylo, he's an idiot.

I'm not entirely sure WHY harpies are attacking this castle; I didn't stick around long enough for them to kill me just for existing.

Why do I always run into more danger? Everything here hates me! And I figured out how to turn off that combo window that you saw in the picture above (off to the right of my toon).

Even the chickens become evil!!!!... This was actually just funny timing. They were adorable.

This picture is mostly for you TS'ers there. Ranked Professions. I have no idea what anything on this screen means. The red introduce button WILL NOT TEMPT ME! I WILL REMAIN OBLIVIOUS! My only skills atm come from running and swimming everywhere (increased my stamina and breath from doing a few marathons it feels).

Using the Observe mode feature here to go all incorporeal here and get a view of this side alley. I am the tiny human thing hiding behind the glassy circle over in the left. Really helpful feature if you can find a place to sit down or lean against. And that gold farmer guy, the economy doesn't really work like that, so I dunno how they're gonna make money. Either way, I'll learn how to block spammers tomorrow.

I don't know if he would've landed, but I noped out of there anyways.

Also the hotbar? Yeah I don't use it. It's easier/more fun/better to use the keyboard and mouse. w+LMB for a forward slash, combo into double RMB, then F, finish with s+LMB.

A few people told me I should update! So here's a little bit of my adventures thus far.

Firstly, some guy is a HUGE fan of Spiderman! I call it Spiderhorse. It's super original.

While I was in town I'd figure I'd check out the marketplace and see if I could figure things out.
aXIQ5cB.jpg

It's cool because the market is regulated based on how people place prices. You can actually see the graphs of how things value out over time. (I got lucky and got some of those crystal shards yesterday while fishing.... like finding a VD map!)

Either way, lots of confusing tabs and colors and numbers, so F*&^ it! OFF TO ADVENTURING!

The yellow bar is the horses' stamina. It runs out and you are stuck trotting until you recover at a stable or feed it some carrots. More on that later.

First thing I found is a little girl. Notice to parents!!!! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN ALONE WITH CREEPY BLACK SPIRITS! I'm pretty sure this black spirit was controlling this little girl but she was moving too slow I stopped trying to find their destination after about 20min. ((This is what your black spirit ends up looking like 50+. I'm not sure what it looks like at the higher levels...There is no level cap technically. 50 is the first soft cap, you can start working on your awakened gear at 55 which is atm basically endgame, but there are some people that are 60+).

I FOUND KELETHIN! You can rent out those houses up top which makes for a killer view!
HEJyXlJ.jpg

Died. Ran back to town, said Hey I'mma be Matbar and Kerolynne and start being a tradeskiller! Cause as a new guy, best way to make some money as I level up! Damn rain however makes it so I can't dry out the things I fish up for cooking! (Rain also impacts the damage you deal and I THINK the speed you run at. Various terrain I know does impact that.)
Zl1ZEQY.jpg

Back to the horses. Yes your horse has stats, and can gain skills. Double jump, attacks, double seater, Drift, blah blah blah. Level them up, breed them, hope for a higher tier and some new skills. The horse breeding market is pretty huge. Sidenote: I made Tierilo my bitch.

Random inventory screen so people can see how you can add more inventory slots as you quest and level up, and the gear wheel. Not sure what the pearls tab is for yet. Oh, and the mini map. 4 icons. The one to the left of the sun is the terrain. That smooth flatness means that it's a treated road so I run fastest on that. Move into the brush and it gets all jagged, so I slow down. Water has it's own as well. So far it's been a lot of fun. Once I fixed my UI a bit and figured out how to block spammers and trolls, it's been very enjoyable. Adding in chat filters such as "twitch.tv" "3vv" "daum cash" "clinton" "bernie" "sanders" "obama" "trump" "www." "socialism" all the annoying people went away and I was able to play with people who log on to actually play!

Recommended systems requirements:
  • 64 bit Windows 7 or 8.
  • Intel Core i5-650 3.2GHz.
  • 6gb RAM.
  • GTX 650 / GTX 550ti / Radeon HD7770 / Radeon HD 6770.
  • 1280x720 Resolution.
What I have:
  • 64 bit Windows 7
  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz.
  • 8gb RAM.
  • Radeon HD 6670. (Note: that's 6670, not 6770. though barely seems different from online comparisons I looked at)
  • 1280x720 Resolution.

How choppy do you think this game would be for me?

So what I run is:

64 bit Windows 10
Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.40GHz
8gb RAM (DDR3 I think)
Nvidia GeForce 660M GTX with 2GB
15mbps internet on wifi that averages like 7mbps.
I play on 1600x900, haven't tried 1900x1080 and don't really care to.

I play on Medium everything with some stuff turned up a bit (I could maybe do High settings until I hit 45-50 and start to do some PvP and world bosses) and keep 30fps even in towns. For you, you only have a dual core, versus my quad but higher base clock rate which I think would end up in a wash in this game. RAM wise ur gtg. The big difference is your graphics card. I'm assuming that's a desktop one, versus my mobile one, but here's a breakdown.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-6670-vs-GeForce-GTX-660

It's a very efficiently made game (yes things "pop" into existence but it does that at max settings anyways which I tried even on ultra high... 10-15fps. It's a known issue that's being looked at) so I would say as long as you have good internet you'll be solid. I played the game a bit at the lowest settings (I did turn shadows on) and it was still amazing to look at. I think you'll be fine with low to medium settings and able to get a solid 30fps. Like I said, even on low settings it's super awesome. Just don't get too downtrodden when your hair doesn't look realistic at the character loading screen or soggy in the rain.

I don't care much about graphics; it's game play that I primarily care about. If it's a fun game, awesome but I need it to run. If it's too choppy to run then it doesn't matter how pretty it looks.

I also thought about starting this game up. I built my PC a while ago so it's a bit outdated but I might be able to squeak by. Once I have more time I'll have to give it a shot. I did some research on it about being a pay-to-win game but it seems like it isn't too bad? Any opinion?

It's buy to own, free to play. The pay to win aspects only really exist on the Russian and Korean servers. Here it's pretty much buying a suit that just makes me look like a Phoenix or a fish, or a bikini. Unless you count the ghillie suit which is useless if you use your mini map in PvP like a normal human.

I know Binsin plays, and I just gave Gwaine my 7 day guest pass to check it out so maybe those 2 can give an opinion.

I killed a big scary.... goblin? I think. Spooky corn field for extra effect.

Z4NpaO6.jpg

I had to milk a fucking cow. I had so much trouble with this. Mielech = Gwaine.

lUGsS4q.jpg

Love the weather effects. Was out farming some hides to knock out a few beginner quests and had to snap this pick of the morning fog rolling in.

After trialing the game I 100% recommend BDO. You can be so involved in economy that it makes the world feel alive. There are a lot of busy NPC's so it doesn't feel empty.

The game can feel very overwhelming at first because there's so much to learn and it doesn't give extensive instructions but you eventually figure it out and settle down. And inventory is cramped but there are ways to expand it without paying cash.

Also Daenar sucks at the cow game. A lot.
