Bard Questions

I played a Bard in retail and I noticed there are no epics here as well as custom items. My major question is about the *all* modifier for instruments that the Bard epic usually has. Are there high-end equivalents here that have that as well? Any Bard will tell you that having to switch out instruments all the time is a real pain, and for me the epics are a must have for this effect alone.

I also had some questions about the casting system.

I read that you can have 2 pos and 2 neg songs running at once. So its like a constant 4 song twist without having to actually do the twist?

If so that sounds good, seems to be an improvement over the /melody or /song update a few years back (it's been years I forget the exact term) where you could type /melody 1, 2, 3, 4 or any gem combos and it would auto twist them.

Though I would normally sing haste, mana/hp regen, attk/str and maybe a DOT, DD or slow. So no more 3 buffs here if I read it right, is that correct? (bummer if so)

Any SoD Bards with experience feel free to reply with your opinion on Bards here. It's my favorite class by far, and extremely unique so I'm looking for someone who knows the retail Bard as well to tell me how they compare here since their spell system is so unique compared to other casters. Just looking to find out if I will be disappointed (like the EQ2 Bard) or if the Bard experience here is pretty much the same. Takes a long time to level and gear toons so I'm just fishing for a little info.

Sorry for the tl:dr post folks, just curious :)

Thanks!

OKAY well. First off to begin aside from one damage song no other bard songs currently require you to have an actual instrument slotted to play them so that addresses your instrument swapping issue.

As for twisting: Currently yes, you have two beneficial songs which you start up and pulse automatically and you can have UP TO two detrimentals going but this works differently in the sense that both detrimentals will not pulse actively, just the detrimental you are currently singing and the secondary one will tick off until its duration is up so you need to twist the two to keep them on constantly. To be the most efficient damage-wise later on you will be doing two pulsing detrimentals combined with two bellow songs which are non-pulsing DDs (thus not counting against the 2 detrimental limit) so you'll be twisting 4 detrimentals.

Ok so you can have 3 songs running nonstop without doing anything, 2 buffs and 1 DOT (for instance). You can run a 2nd DOT (4th song) but have to maintain it physically as once it runs it's course it will stop. The DD Bellow songs don't count against the limit, just cast as they refresh.

Hmm that's not bad, I was bummed about only being able to keep 2 buffs up (still am), but since the Bellows function differently than normal detrimental songs I guess that sorta makes up for it. Not my normal Bard style of play, I mostly played songs to augment my melee DPS, only casted dmg songs when I kited. But I think I can adapt to this.

Maybe 1 day they will let us use more than 2 buff songs :D

I wouldn't count on it. The high level bard songs are designed around that mechanic. Also, that would make having a 2nd bard on a raid a waste.

It's for the best. Really.

Thank you for the input Tarutao.

My experience and play style is 100% retail and I know there are some major differences here. If you say the high level Bard songs are designed around that mechanic then I needn't worry about the difference working to my detriment.

Looking forward to trying out, and adapting to the new style and experiencing the custom changes. Boy with the zones connected differently am I gonna be lost, should be a real adventure, lol.

oh as for all modifiers, they exist. there are also instrument modifiers on gear as well (I have a 2.3 all mod and a 2.3-2.6 in every other bard mod without an instrument equipped, though instruments themselves are way higher mods but you lose out on lots by wearing one)
