Bard or Enchanter?

I just installed WR on my computer last night! Talk about exciting...I haven’t played any online games in a while. *cough eq cough*

To start with, I rolled an enchanter just to take a look around. I felt like a total noob and it was great!

There were quite a few young enchanters running around last night. I played an enchanter before (on EQ) and liked many aspects of the class. I loved saving the group by AE mezzing and stunning. I liked buffing to a certain extent...and pulling. I liked to contribute to the group and feel that my presence made a difference. After 65ish, in a raid and group setting, most of the time I really felt like a buff whore and one of the least desirable classes.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm if this is true for enchanters in WR? I know this is not EQ....but I did go through the spell lists for enchanters in WR and read some enchanters post that lead me to believe that the level 65 enchanter is quite similar to his/her predecessors in EQ.

I am also thinking of rolling a bard. I think bards share many qualities that I admire in the enchanter. They are defiantly one of the least played classes which is one positive.

Anyways, sorry to write a novel. Your suggestions and remarks about either class will be appreciated! I apologize in advance for my noobishness (is that a word? *smiles*)

Thanks! <3

Bards

I played a bard in eq live to 45 and quit. This was a terrible disappointment for me because a bard is the most fun class in the world until they start charging mana for half the songs . . . well half the good ones. I know that mana has to be used for balance purposes, but I was wondering if bards are just as pathetic at high lvls (unless you master the art of . . . oh I forget the term for it, but kiting 40 or so mobs around using PBAOEs to kill em all). I would love to be a bard, but I hate to invest time in one and be disappointed again at higher lvls.

Eh? There are very few songs which require mana. I played a bard on live to 65 (quit over 2 years ago, and was about half way to PoTime). Bards just get more fun at higher levels. I worked a ranger to 60 (back when 60 was the level limit), and a necro to 53, and a bunch of other classes to various levels, and IMO the bard was the most fun and (obviously) the most versitile.

Unless they've made major changes in the last 2 years, I do not understand your experience with the bard.

I'm looking forward to getting back to the higher levels here on WR.

The only songs that use mana are the charm songs. Well, and that lame dd song (lvl 45?).

Pbae kiting was nerfed to 6 mobs max at a time.

I wouldn't call myself pathetic. I get by pretty well by charm kiting, when I'm not grouping.

Am I wrong?

Perhapse Im wrong . . . that was just my personal experience. I guess another disappointment with bards was that the melee and damage absorbing abilities drop off steeply in the 40's, and as a spell caster bards are ok, but not really good at any thing . . . at least druids do have decent healing, nukes, and nice regen and armor buffs. My favorite aspect of playing a bard was being the puller and essentially the leader of the group, dashing in, lulling a bunch of mobs, and pulling one with snare, then running back and hitting haste and mana song b4 the mob gets to camp, and then meleeing and actually doing a noticable amount of damage . . . but i didn't have very good gear for my bard either, so that may have contributed to my not liking it very well. I think all i had was a centi ssword and a lammy or somthing like that . . .

I <3 teh bard mana spell, as far as I know it stacks with my clarity line... only time I've ever grouped with a bard on WR they had it and I was drooling over my mana regen. As I've always understood it bards deal their damage through their allies.

but using the mana song DURING a fight is a waste, it won't/doesn't generate enough mana for anything. Inbetween fights is when the mana song should be in tune.

Not quite correct.

You can get a max of 30 mana regen from spells. If you have for example, 25 mana regen from some buffs, and a bard plays 15 mana increase song, your only getting 5 mana regen from the bard. I think you get a total of 60 mana regen from spells out of combat however.

Same goes for FT, but on a smaller scale. 15FT cap in cambat, 30(or 25)FT while medding.

Bards were rediciously overpowered when I quit right after OoW. Pretty much, full raid buffed i had over 14k hp and roughly 10k mana. I could solo pull any mob wherever it is as long as it wasn't linked to any other mob in the script. Lots of neat little tricks bards picked up too, and part of that was because they were horribly broken.
