It can be done, by running a loop just outside a mob's melee range
And there's the rub. Using this standard tactic on WR will get you beat up more than half the time on WR. (Other than low level bards, 'beat up' means hurt real bad if the bard can get selo's off, dead if not =)
Anyways, on WR the different song modifiers, mobs speeds, mob hit boxes and such make it a bit harder than on live to AE kite with bards. (Which is fine, btw. I'd like to see it fixed someday for novelty's sake, but only if you could somehow nerf the xp from this kind of kiting and not nerf the fun, heh)
Mind you, I've successfully done this AE kiting thing, even on WR. But you have to find the right combo of mob levels, zone geometry (no cliffs...don't ask a bard how high he can fly off a cliff), mob run speed, etc. And for many levels, there's just not the proper setup available of these factors to even allow bard AE kiting.
If you are bored and level 30ish, I've had some fun AE kiting wolves in Frosthort (i.e. Iceclad), but again, you'll ruin your day a good number of times (adds, lag, run off a cliff with selo's at mach IV, cougar roams by (they run fast), etc.)
Enjoy.
