Bad username

ya i was playing and went from stingers bog to the zone thats called feerott on live...anyhoo it got stuck and disconnected and now its been giving me this message on login that after i type password and hit enter...it goes EQemu error:bad username/password...i dont have it on capslock or anything...is this a normal thing for when the server is down or this not good??
 
I'm afraid this isn't an answer for the Original poster. I thought I would post this here rather than start up a whole new thread, as I agree that can be annoying.

I'm a noob with a tech question here, but it's a simple one and I'll explain the specifics so you don't throw too many stones at me. For the Winter's Roar Server I went ahead and followed their website's instructions to a Tee and came here first and followed the instructions given on the FAQ guide of How to Play on EQEmu.

Everything went fine at first. I registered my name with my E-mail, got the confirmation E-mail, was able to sign in to this Web Site, and then I went to my Profile and created an actual Account, using my assigned passkey code listed on my profile.

I then patched a fresh install of EQ Evolution and patched it to current.

I then made the modifications as listed to my EQHost text file and the rest as the FAQ listed.

From there I went ahead and followed Winter's Roar website's instructions. I downloaded their patcher, character creation file folder, etc. Inserted what was needed and patched using their patcher. I finally hit the Run key and this put me into the game, doing the usual config junk of my screen size, if I had sound on or off, what models I'd be using to represent the races in play (old or Luclin), etc.

I figured I was all set to go so it asked for my Account name and Password. I tossed it in and got an Error Message of
" EQEmu Error - Bad username/password" and could go no further.

Is this a fault with my program accessing EQEmu? Is it a fault that I have with my Account and my listed Account Name and Password? Or is this a fault with my having patched to current (1/12/05) and like everyone else, I must wait until the Devs of this site are able to update the code needed?

Thank you for being patient with me and I hope my problem and what answers you have may be of use to others new to this system.
 
I think I recall seeing a similar post on EQEmus forums, Ted - wasn't you by any chance was it? :hug:

Firstly, when did this happen? I've heard of this happening to people purely because they tried to login whilst the servers were down. I presume you've still been trying since posting the problem.

Secondly, go back to the EQEmu main site, and check your account details. The forums were hacked recently, and I believe Rogean had to reset all privileges because they are now using vbulletin. Check the details there and make sure your login details correspond with those that you tried. If all else fails, make a new account, and try that.

Yeah, I attempted to play the game by doing the Account joining process and hoop jumping with all the file downloads and installs since 1/11/05. Yesterday and Today I've tried logging in again and everything works great up until I put in my Account Name and Password at the standard EQ in-game prompt, where it says Station Account.

At that point it stops short after I enter them and it gives me the message of EQEmu Error Bad username/password. Which made me sad. I went back to EQEmu for info, to find out whether it was something I did wrong on my side, or if it's a problem with their accounting for names/passwords on their end. It looks like their site is in a state of flux involving their data because they had a hack happen to them or something.

At any rate, yeah, I was just tyring to confirm where the fault may lie - Me, The Winter's Roar stuff I installed, or EQEmu. I'm thinking it's EQEmu at this point.

I'm not sure what making a new account with EQEmu would do for me. It took them two days to manually process my name and password in the first place, just so that I could log onto their forums and even access my Key code. Go figure.
 
Hah! I'm in the game now, and I'll tell you what changed for it to work.

First off, EQEmu did indeed get hacked a bit ago and they recovered from the damage and made a new Forum. That's semi-old news. What is New News is that the process of gaining an account with them has changed. Here's the Link to read if you want to know the latest on what they're doing with accounts.

I was able to claim a New Account, and logged into Winter's Roar no problem. I changed nothing other than that from my attempt - I used the method I listed above within this thread.
