I think innate double and triple backstab should be implemented (perhaps at specific levels).
Wiz mentioned in a post that "You don't. As it is, even with a plain x5, rogues deal the most damage in melee (This is true and tested) so it'd get ridiculous if you got double stab too." (1)
However with a % chance of 1% for double backstab and .5% for triple backstab you'd be looking at only a 2% increase in overall damage(numbers could be lowered even further to only increase overall averaege damage by 1% or less). Similar to ultimate and primal blasts but with backstab.
Wiz wrote "You are equalizing "big flashy numbers" to high DPS without actually analyzing them. I could give wizards a x100 SUPER BLAST that only kicks in every ten thousandth nuke, and the dps increase would be 1%." (2)
Same idea as with these super blasts, but with double and triple backstab. Small chance to land and thus a small overall average dps increase, but it would be soooo neat. (Maybe other rogues don't feel this way, I haven't discussed it with any?)
Perhaps this would just require too much work on the part of the staff, and if so I'd understand that. It was just be soooo fun seeing a double or triple crit backstab once in a full moon.
Did I mention how cool it would be too see a double or triple backstab even if it occurred so little that it only increased your overall average damage by 1% or less?
