Aux tanking vs from the back in exp groups

Well, quick question: as a rule of thumb, should Rangers fight from the front, to help with aux tanking, or from the back, to maximize their DPS? What about Warriors that arent' the MT?

In an actual exp group (IE not say, cmal3+/emberflow/FR nameds) the mobs don't really do enough DPS to warrant anyone auxing or /shielding, so your ranger/warrior/whatever is probably better off fighting from the rear.

It really depends on your setup/targets and tank's gear.
Jun is speaking of high end groups.

There was a moment when I could definitely feel as groupmates were aux tanking on E/VE Tmap waves...

If your tank is fine, go for full DPS mode on the mob's back.
Warriors should fight from the front imo, just because the loss of DPS isn't big (since their DPS suck anyways).

The more DPS u make the more AUX tank u do, right?

Btw what is the %difference between back and front dps?

Someone should parse to see what is the issue.

Let say the diff is 10%.

So you kill the mob 10% faster or help the mana on healers by 10%. Your choice

these two things are unrelated.

DPS= damage per second

aux tanking is attacking from the front of the mob to reduce the strength of its hits on the main tank. This only takes into account the AC and HP of the aux tank.

also I would say that killing a mob 10% faster will result directly in a 10% reduction of healing needed, whereas the benefit from aux tanking will be less consistent and more difficult to quantify.

Aux tanking is for when the healers might not get the heals out fast enough to keep the tank up, generally. DPS to cut the fight shorter is otherwise a considerably bigger bennefit.

Youre right

Auxillary tanking
Auxillary tanking will be added. Auxillary tanking is a system that reduces the damage a NPC or player deals to whoever it is attacking based on the amount and tanking quality of players and pets you have in front of it that are attacking it (with autoattack) - so if you have a NPC attacking a lonely warrior, it might do 20% extra damage, if you add a second warrior in front of it it might do normal damage, add a monk in front of it and it's now doing 10% less damage, add a water pet and it's now doing a total of 15% less damage, and so on. Every class, pet and NPC can contribute to auxillary tanking, but there is a hardcap on how low the NPC can go in damage, and since a wizard doesn't have the best tanking stats around, they're probably best off standing back instead of taking ripostes.
It is an example. The amount each player reduces it is relative to their "tanking stats". This would be a formula that Wiz knows, and may or may not want to share. The cap as i understand it is on the total amount of DMG reduction you can get on any one mob. So You might be able to cap it out with 2 extra warriors or 2 Pallies and a Bard etc. It is significant and useful.
