Arcane Acuity

Nwaij

Dalayan Pious Diety
Can someone please tell me what this spell is even supposed to do? I recently aquired it and did not notice any effect (besides the instantly flashing buff symbol in my buffbar).
Parser doesn't seem to know what it does, and the whole lasts 2 ticks/6 min recsat thing doesn't make test runs a reasonable option at all.

Anyone?

Cast a spell right after it.

You may find it never resisted.

Isn't it more practical to just use Lure of the Void unless you just want to chain something like RRR for 6-12 seconds?

Just curious what your biggest nuke with taesh ear was nwaij? Have you ever primald with it or anything? I know i hit like a 21k or something on a cleric...i cant imagine a wizard

36kish on an ultimate blast. No primals with it so far.

This is supposed to be 10 minute duration and fades on nuke. Other than that its working.

Never resisted isnt the word to use. Completely unblockable in every way (besides true mob invulnerability) is the word to use.

So just that i understand it right: spell is supposed to put a buff on me that lasts 10 min or till I start nuking. When I start nuking, the buff starts fading, essentially giving me 1-2 spells that are
Completely unblockable in every way (besides true mob invulnerability) is the word to use.

What about other spells I cast during that duration, like root/snare/concussion/harvest/rune? Will they cause the buff to fade?
How (if at all) are procs affected by this?

So every 6 minutes this would give wizards the ability to overcome counterspell or reflect for 6-12 seconds (this is assuming it does a 2 tick buff wearing off thing after you cast that initial spell instead of just poofing after your spell lands) for 600 mana? I mean why even give it a 10 minute duration, how many times is landing your very first spell integral. Maybe I'm missing some obvious use of this spell.

Its not a runic or a slave spell so obviously its not meant to be always useful.

Basically it makes any spell you cast after its cast unblockable. No reflect, no counterspell, no resist no nothing. You can also cast it at the beginning of a fight if you wish and use it on any type of spell.

Is it something you will use often? No. Can I name 5 or so fights where it would be used extensively? Yes. Will it be used sparsely (yet still be used) other than those fights? Yes. Or at least should be!

Wait, does this meant that runic spells are meant to be usefullß Cause mine sure is not, I found one fight so far where it MIGHT be usefull, and even there it is questionable.

You mean, any spell you cast while it is on you, wich means essentially 2-3 damage spells cause its fading the moment you start nuking.

You can also cast it at the beginning of a fight if you wish and use it on any type of spell.
So effecitvely I can now concuss at the beginning of a fight without worrying that they get resisted. No wait, I don't worry about that anyways, I just pay attention and cast one more concussion if one gets resisted.

Is it something you will use often? No. Can I name 5 or so fights where it would be used extensively? Yes. Will it be used sparsely (yet still be used) other than those fights? Yes. Or at least should be!
Please name these fights, maybe in a PM to avoid strat spoilers. Also please explain me how a spell with 6 min recast and a duration of effectively 2 ticks (fade time) can be used extensively in any situation.

Summing up ikisith wizard spells:

Abstraction of Flame is usefull in AE group situations, but the 5 min recast is quite limiting to that use.
Runic: Intensify is of questionable usefulness at best, I know only one fight in the entire game where I consider it to use it. Also, yet again a spell with a long recast, and even longer time to be usefull.
Arcane Acuity is supposed to make spells bypass whatever spell defense a mob has. This would be usefull if it wouldn't fade you start doing your class job: nuking. In it's currently intended form, it means that one could land ONE nuke every 6 min, guaranteed. Reality is though, if a mob counterspells or reflects, landing one spell doesn't really help, the next spell will just get counterspelled/reflected as usual. If resists are the problem, just go to another resist type, or use irresistable relic lure. Doing some math for resists being the problem: Arcane Acuity (600 mana) followed by a Moon Comet (525 mana) sums up to a total of 1125 mana for 4707 damage. Casting Relic Lure x2 costs (725x2) =1450 mana for (3606x2) = 7212 damage. Thats 2.5k more damage for only 300 more mana. Considering these numbers, using AA/Moon Comet is a waste of time and mana.

EDIT: Oh yeah, ports to dreadlands and murk. These are funny if anyone in the group is still KoS to the faction in question, cause they will be gibbed by guards at the portin. Other then that, I like em.

tl;dr

So far all ikisith wizard spells are very situational, and with the exception of Abstraction of Flame, just plain terrible.

Just from a design perspective...

I'm kinda confused why an obvious combat utility ability costs mana for the primary caster DPS class. I mean if it had no recast that would make sense. This just seems like something that should be on a hotkey like deflection. It's got a similarly situational use and a similarly long recast. You only get 8 spell slots and those tend to be precious resources. I mean, looking at this I could see Arcane Acuity being awesome... As an alternate advancement (or tome?) hotkey.

Granted, I am no McCoy, so my opinion means squat.

Welcome to ikisith spells.

ffffffffffffffffffff

Also if you want to keep the spell as is for wizards, why not just make it not cost any mana. or 1 mana. or something that is not 600 mana. It's very situational, it has a long cooldown, and it will only benefit 1-3 nukes, why should the mana cost be anywhere near 600.

Tweak it down, way down, and I don't see a problem with the spell. It's situational, you got something you didn't have before, it hardly costs you anything, use it when you want to, it's a nifty spell.

Wizard's hardly run into issues with limited spell gems.

The other road you could take here is making the recast shorter. Both of these are acceptable changes that would make this spell useful.

My eyes would also appreciate it if you rabid ikisith high end raiders would stop acting all high and mighty in regards to these spells, like you somehow were wronged horribly in obtaining new abilities you never had before and that the dev team needs to cater to your every whim and opinion.

If you want to post constructive criticism, that's one thing. But the lot of you are sounding like 'd douchebags and its simply hard for even me as a player to take any of your suggestions seriously when you have developed such an entitlement complex.

Nwaij in your entire wall of text I fail to see a single mention of *anything* you would feel would be an improvement to the spell.

It's not hard to voice your opinion in a constructive and polite manner. Stop being social troglodytes.

Raining or PBAEing requires 3/8 spell gems. Harvest requires a spell gem. Both harvests if you're feeling mana-parched (You're a wizard so you are.) requires 2 spell gems. You've got 3 left after that for a single target nuke, a root flavor for "oh shit", and your OOM nuke.

Yes, spell gem slots do matter.

70% of raid content does not benefit from rains.

you do not need every spell you listed on every encounter.

wizards are not bards or enchanters who have *serious spell gem issues*

don't pretend you are.

I really do not see why this spell has such a high mana cost (or one at all) given the longish recast time.

Being a wizard who played around with Abstraction and Intensify for awhile now, I would agree with Nwaij.
Abstraction was a pleasant surpise; the refresh time is not too short to be overpowered and not too long to make it not worth meming. It does nice damage but also requires some care of not getting yourself killed. It's pretty good as is I think.
Intensify is a great idea also. I was excited when I first heard how it worked. However after getting the spell and testing it extensively, I can't reallly find any situation (raid/no raid) that it worthy enough to be used. Still, I really like the idea of it, the casting speed is good, the mana cost looks right, but the refresh is just too damn long to make it useful. Obviously decrease the refresh could make it too strong easily, but I hope something could be done so I can use this cool spell.
I mean compare to Enc, pre-expansion Enc was pretty good with the new GoG / Share mind / Enhance Control changes. I'd say Enc, though vastly different than Wiz, was already a stronger class. Now post-expansion, enc's slave and runic are just plain amazing, whereas wiz's are pretty meh still.
