Any guilds accepting newbies?

Pretty much heres my dilemma: I played World of Warcraft for about 1.5 years. I'm in a large guild and I have a lot of friends, but I just don't enjoy the game anymore, the only reason I continue to pay for my account is basically I have a lot of friends to talk to/group with at all times. I used to play EQ a long time ago and loved the game, but I hate what the game has become, so I was told about this place. Are there any large guilds around here that accept complete newbies? Right now im only a level 8 druid, but hopefully climbing the ropes quickly. Also I noticed theres on average about 200-250 players on whenever I log on, is that number rising or is it a pretty steady player base?

There are many many guilds on SoD, ranging from the "family-style" to hardcore raiders. If you are looking to join a guild that raids regularly and is looking to progress, you will probably have to wait to apply until you are 65 with AAs. Other guilds, like Black Hammer Mercenaries, Apocalypse, and more that I can't remember off the top of my head are accepting lower level players, for leveling, tradeskilling, entry-level encounters or adepts and fun. You also might want to stick around in DB for a few levels, as it is a pretty solid source of information. Even if you are planning on raiding you might consider joining one of these guilds as a stepping stone until later.

As for the server population, Wiz and co. have said that the number on the screen isn't particularly accurate, and even if it was the number would reflect characters logged in and not players (2boxing is allowed).

As for numbers, do a / all, that should be accurate. Dalaya's Beginners is a pretty decent starting guild, I was probably in it until my 50s. Its great for asking newby questions because SoD does have a differences from live. You might want to check out the Information from Wiz through in the Tome of Knowledge.

From the tone of your post, it sounds like you may not have started playing yet. "Dalay's Beginners", also known as DB, is a guild that every new character starts in, so you don't have to go looking for a guild as soon as you roll your character. IMO, it's the best place to be until you either reach your 60s and want to join a raiding guild, or meet enough people that you get along with in another guild to join their guild. SoD is quite top-heavy, in that a greater percentage of the people are max level than you would find in "old-school" live. Due to the small population, and this top-heavyness, there really aren't enough people to support a large number of lower level guilds like you saw on live. DB is a great place to interact with a good number of people at all levels pre-raid-level.
