An abundance of undead.

It seems to me, based on the area's i've explored, that there is an overwhelming abundance of undead zones.

I recently took my 37 druid to east badlands wanting to charm kite some stuff, targeted a corrupted plains lion and got a "this spell only works on animals" message.

Where are the zones i can charm animals at and net good xp at lvl 37, a zone that i could stay in till lvl 45 would be very nice but so far all i've found are zones with green con animals. I was headed to GD and see what i would find there but while i was traversing eastern waste with my warrior/druid the zone went down for quite a while. I havent been back on since then.

So basically i want to know where some good hunting grounds, preferably an outdoor zone, for my war/druid combo.

< this part is a whine >

why are there so many undead zones? its pretty rediculous if you ask me. necros seem to do better already without the ability to use all of thier powers of undead. My mage has no zones full of summoned mobs he can go ape shit on. Also from what i've seen there is a lack of zones for my druid to go ape on with a charmed pet but maybe i just didnt look hard enough on that part. now everyone can say mages are extremely powerful as it is, well from my point of veiw they have it pretty bad off.

First of all, based on the spell database i looked at, mages dont even have the option of charming any elementals like they did on live (dont throw that "well this isnt live" crap in my face either). There is no reason mages shouldnt be able to charm elementals at lvl 65 as they did on live... except for the fact that there arent any mobs here that would allow that option. My necro friend, and kudos to him, solo'd 3 levels from 57-60, in the same amount of time it took me to get 1/3 of an xp bar at the same level in the same zone killing the same mobs. And the fact that they can charm in just about any zone they go to its absolutly crazy. They already have an abundance of defensive spells that can keep them alive in a bad spot. what does a mage have? gate and a DS that creates more aggro. Oh and a small HP regen buff, wow. Summoning FT staves, stat food, mod rods, whatever.. does not make up for the already lack in defensive abilities. Compared to a necro Mages are extremely underpowered. i've played both, albeit not to the same extent but there very large difference in survival abilities is there regardless. I know there are some that sympathize or at least understand what i'm talking about. I may have gotten a little off my own topic, but there isnt any reason to take away the mages charm and to not have any zones with any summoned mobs in them. i used to do quite well with charm on live.

sorry for the little temper-tantrum, i'm hardcore mage and feel totally left out in this situation. This is totally biased tho.

<flames to follow in the post below this im sure>

the only reason you couldnt charm in EB is because the lion was corrupted. There should be uncorrupted lions around and if there are not, then I would suggest kiting the corrupted ones to spawn the charmable ones.

Hrm, i'll have to try that. Every mob in that zone was corrupt. So i guess i'll have to be fast to get an uncorrupt mob. thanks.

I could be wrong - I havent fought in EB yet. I have fought in WB and NB and know that animals can be corrupted at night by spectral spirits (its a druid quest to actually kill those spirits in the badlands) - I generally see a mix of corrupted and normal mobs in WB (centaurs and lions).

I'm sure it is, i still havent read the books i started with but i do understand SOME of the undead thing, i was the first to *attempt* one of the new scripts in rivervale (outstanding job on that btw). i just get too excited about looking into new areas and tossing the reading material to the side. if i can get my patcher to work i'll read as soon as i get in... btw i have a post in technical forums i'd like you to read

whats this about a quset with the spectral spirits ? i have killed several, but i dont' recall anything droping from them..

thanks.

So EB is actually designed for the undead I guess based on Wiz's post (if no normal mobs are ever up or will pop).

I have not completed this quest, but here is my log file:

You say, 'Hail, Tzailav the Elder'

Tzailav the Elder says, 'Hail, young Druid. The voices of the trees welcome you to our glade. I know you are eager to be instructed along our path and grow in strength, but first, there are [duties] for you to take care of.'

You say, 'i will perform the duties'

Tzailav the Elder says, 'All Druids must learn to put duty before themselves, duty to nature, to balance, and to creation. I have two duties which you may choose to undertake, to further yourself in body and spirit. For the first, go to the training grounds, and speak to Varsh. Tell him I sent you. For the second, you must [travel to the Mistwoods].'

You say, 'Tzailav sent me' <-- you have to say this to Varsh, hailing him will not start the quest.

Trainer Varsh says, 'You're the investigator I requested? Hm. You'll do. As I'm sure you know, the Glade Keepers are worried of the corruption that blights so much of the lands outside the hills. Many a race, such as the noble centaur, has fallen to its tendrils, and naturally we're worried it might happen to the residents of Newport and Surefall. To gain some insight into the matter, I have been asked to retrieve some part of what drives the corruption. From our reports, it appears that spectres will emerge at night from protected sites in the Badlands, roaming amidst the creatures and infesting them, turning them into corrupted counterparts. If you destroy these spectres, they might leave something which you can use and bring back to me.'

I havent bothered to get past this (only saw the spectres once but now that I have track I plan to go back to complete the quest).

It's time for a First Ruins party!

Slightly off topic, but still part of the post:
I completely disagree with kineldar's section on mages being underpowered with Necros[mage more than necro]. I've played both classes, and I think they are well balanced.

Mages are the masters of summoning. Not charming. I can see a reason for charming elementals, but it doesn't suit the role. Mages summon things, not charm, but that's my own opinion :) Mages pets are already pretty powerful and when monster summoning gets put in (hurry up Zipher!) it'll be another nice thing to have. Mages are a very good dps class, I soloed my mage to 65 in not too much time, I'm wanted for alot of groups too. I don't see mages needing anything at the moment to make them better. Well, with the exception of Elemental Barrier being made into something better like a pet summon weapon.

And yes there aren't a whole lot of zones to kill summoned stuff, but it's suppose to be a rare chance for the mage to shine :)
