am i a veteran now? .. hell no! :D (new in WR)

Dalayan Beginner
hey everybody played eq when it wad launched but not really long anyways.. i'm currently installing my client again .. but i'm wondering if
my playing experience is gonna be good enough without all the expansions! (i would like to be able to team with everyone)

now onto the intresting part!
my memories of the game have since then faded alot! and i was wondering if anything has changed since i played (not sure 'till which patch i played but oh well you get the idea)

now the things that worry me are
1.dieing (is this still like it used to namely running to your corpse before it decays?)
2.classes (is there an extensive guide out there or a good site which explains them all with pro's and cons and maybe abilities aswell)
3.money (how is it to be made? farming? what/how/where
4.pvp (is it worth anything at all in this game.. i'm not sure if i'll be doing it since i enjoy pvm and social events much MUCH more!)
5.upfuckyness (is it possible to gimp myself/char if i don't know what i'm doing when selecting skills/spells/stats/whatever)
6.what are the hotspots of WR? (i would rather start at a place populated by other people so i can team/ :10bux: "beg" :10bux: /socialise :D

now some things i would like to know about travelling and making friends in WR

is it smart to join a guild a soon as someone proposes you to join one?
in a team.. what am i supposed to do (or better yet what not!) i have fairly good understandings of common mmorpgs terms like add, pull, dot, calm, root etc .. is there something unique to WR/EQ i should know about?

well there's alot more which i would want to ask/say but i'll leave it at this for the moment.. and i suspect this will be more then enough for you too eyewrestle thru

2 ps's though
1: it's imperative that i find a guide on classes becouse i really want to dig into some information so i can better understand the game mechanics
2:are there people from belgium here? (no clue but it never hurts to ask!)

thank you all for your time... and hope to see you on the servers! (sorry for my incredibly chaotic "typings" though.. but that's just how i am)

:? :? :?

*edit*

some EQ or WR specific links (fan or guildsites) would be a really big help aswell! (and it might decrease the rate at which i'm going to bombard you with questions once i get some gametime in!

Sorry that I dont have time to go into details at the moment but a few things to help you:

WR is nothing like regular EQ really

You dont have to find your body unless you have a cleric who will resurect you to shorten or elliminate any experiance debt you aquire from dying(you get a small penalty when you die, nothing big)

Also, as far as class guides i would check out some of the regular eq sites, classes here are similar only with some diff. spells and abilities. I would do a google search for casters realm or allakhazams magical realm and look around those sites if you find them(they are for eq live and should be regarded with that in mind, some things like i said are diff. here)

Also, WR is easy in that you dont need to have played eq to play here. It is very well put together any you can talk to NPCs and learn all about the world and such. Quests are easy to come by if you look too.

Pvp isn't huge in the game at the moment. there is one zone where you can go specifically for PVP or you can /duel a player and fight them as well I think.

as far as your upf#cking I dont think so really, you dont actually pick your abilities untill late late in the game via alternate experiance points and by then you will know your charactor, as far as what stats to boost when creating your charactor its pretty much what you would expect to do. priest classes need wisdom inteligence casters need inteligence, fighters like anything like str, dex, agi, sta but it really isnt a huge deal because you will get lots of items throughtout the game to boost your stats however you need to . And spells are obtainable to everyone fairly cheap from merchants, so you cant really hurt yourself to badly.

Also, as far as hotspots a lot of people chose the path of whatever zone you start in first(newbie zone) then a nearby dungeon type zone, maybe warrens or fearstone keep, then they head eventually to echo caverns, then probably fungus grove and then either netherbian passages or the barrens(I didn't like either one ;( )

Oh yea, and I wouldn't recoment the "begging" part. Most people dont like it. One thing you could do was ask nicelly for buffs from other charactors, and mages are almost always willing to give you summoned gear if they arent bussy. Try going to the nexus to get buffs. The nexus is a major hub to other zones that you get to by visiting a nexus rift. Nexus rifts are huge spires that you can go to and hail "a nexus rift" at . Hailing the rift teleports you to the nexus and you can get buffs there usually. Also, from the nexus you can head down to any other rift, so its a nice place to be.

as far as guilds go you will want to get high enough lvl to be in the big big guilds. There are lots of other guilds that still do raids and such that you can join at lower lvls however and still have a lot of fun, this option is up to you...

As a last comment I would say that you dont need a super duper class guide. You can learn about the classes and get to know them easilly around the web, but basically, if you need it:

Warrior: the tank class, pure melee fighter type with lots of HP and can use two weapons later on.

Cleric: the big healer. this class is a healing maniac and thats pretty much what they do besides use anti undead spells.

Necromancer: evil inteligence caster who summons skeleton pets and casts damage over time spells and life taps to raise his HP in fights.

Paladin: half warior half cleric, a tanking class that has some lower lvl heals. Fun, but not amazingly powerful on WR

Shadowknight: half warrior half necro, they are evil wariors with lower lvl skeletal pets and lower level life tap heals. they are semi-tanks with some utility and spells.

Druid: nature priest class like the cleric with lower level heal spells and lots of nature oriented damage and teleport spells. they can also charm animals for pets

Ranger: warrior/druid who speciallizes in a bow and casts lower lvl heals and druid spells. They can also duel weild a little into the game.

Rogue: backstabber. they are bad tanks but nice damage. they pick locks and such, sneak and hide, and backstab for megga dmg.

Shaman: another preist like the druid but the focus on slowing monsters down for the tank classes, some heals, and they can cannibalize (hurts them but returns mana) they also get some DoTs/DDs, and a wolf pet

Monk: kung Fu type kicker puncher who uses two weapons or just their fists to do pure melee dmg, not the best tank, but nice damage.

Beastlord: monk/shaman who can duel weild and gets a big-dps pet to help them. They get lower lvl shaman spells like poor heals and some slows and damage over time spells.

what am I missing?

Magicians: inteligence casters with elemental pets and DD spells. they summon lots of weapons and items(utility) and have some nice damage sheild spells

Enchanters: crowd controll. they controll the minds of monsters to freeze them

and there are more, but i have to go now =( enchanters also slow !

Big thanks too millenimy for typing all that out ..
since my last writings i played a iksar beastlord toon .. but that didn't go too well (the enviroment was way too creepy for me actually :D)

after that i created a human cleric (chosen partially becouse i have a fetish about making people feel better, and also becouse i would like to be a valuable member in a group .. not that i'm afraid that i won't be .. but i would like to experience the game from that point of view (for the moment anyhow))

i took a quick look at those sites you mentioned and they do provide alot of information which "new" players would find most valuable (although the ingame help is pretty decent aswell) <- i don't remember the ingame help when i played eq .. is that new or has it always been there ?

since i will be soloing alot (i have no clue at what times you play but me living in belgium is probably gonna reduce my chances to find people online to group with .. timezone is a bitch)
i'm wondering if my cleric will be able to smoothly (read not effortlessly)
kill mobs while at the same time surviving .. i don't mind a challenge but i just want to know if it's possible without a huge pool of EQ knowlegde and/or a rich uncle.. =p

i still have 2 question though..
first:is eq alone a good client enough.. or should i ask around for some expansions (i know a couple of friends who got some)
it's not that i want to be able to go everywhere from the start.. i just want to save me the hassle of doing that later when i'm highlevel and everything
second:i read about this EQPN program.. is it worth it after all? so far the game has been running smooth.. (reason i ask this is becouse i tried it registered and all. but nothing came in my email.. i just want to be sure i don't *really* need it.. unless it's really handy (maybe i just haven't been in the big zones yet)

well that's all i guess.. i just want to add that i really enjoyed setting foot in norrath again (i hope i got the name of the eq world right =p) and i look forward to meeting new friends.. partners in crime or soulmates .. (since i'm sure alot of you people on here are really nice and friendly people.. noticed that becouse of the REALLY low trollcount this board has)

i wish you all happy hunting and phat lewt!

About the expansions, you can actually DL all of them from the EQlive patch. Just click on advanced, then check the boxes that say kunark, velious, and luclin.

Dont forget to do the hotfix again, and the WR patcher after you do the EQlive patching for the expansions.

Alright haldor i'll give that a shot (but i'm gonna have some fun with my cleric first though :D .... see i'm not logged in .. and i can hear him calling me .. it goes a little something like this *ghosty voice* "level meeee .. please .. i need it .. and you too!" *ghosty voice*

either way i'm gonna delay the expansion stuff for a moment becouse i'm really happy that i got everything working . and i don't want to mess it up right now (i'll mess it up later when the need arises) :D

i would like to thank everyone sofar .. i'm really enjoying myself here and i already feel at home! (even though i haven't met all roomates yet :D )

yes, congrats on joining the coolest eq gaming experience there is!

yet it is in my party pooper nature to point this out. i'm just pointing it out, not trying to derail the good times or anything. just so it is in your info bank that this is posted on the WR intro webpage (incase any Sony execs corner you and demand answers):

What are the software requirements?

To play on the Winter's Roar server you are required to legally own the following products:

Everquest®
Everquest: Ruins of Kunark™
Everquest: Scars of Velious™
Everquest: Shadows of Luclin™
Everquest: Planes of Power™ (Not required, but recommended!)

enjoy the good times! you'll find this server and the staff/admins/GMs/developers/GODS do a great job, and myself and the rest of the community are helpful in answering any questions you have.

well i made it too level 7 last night.. probably not much of an achievment but oh well for me it is anyway :D

now about the expansions .. obviously i got this computer store nearby called "friend" and guess what.. he had all those expansions in shop. how fortunate of me! *wink* *wink* (i wink becouse i had some dirt in my eye)

i'm pretty sad about the name i chose tho.. "drembol" .. urg i hate it .. i wish i didn't rush character generation and thought a bit about the name of my toon... becouse well to be honest it's a bit flat and meaningless

i haven't noticed many players online in my zone as of yet. but the ooc channel is always a good laugh.. so i can deal with playing solo for now!

about the spells though.. should i get every spell there is? or drop some to save up for better spells later .. becouse some of these buffs really speed up my soloing alot (less downtime, less squishyer etc)
the problem is though.. that most of my moolah is spent on them . and i haven't even been able to upgrade my gear!

gear.. what am i looking for? do i find it in the zones
or do i buy it? the merchans are currently overpricing their goods a bit (bear with me i don't have any idea of the economy) for beginning players! also which was a bit of a letdown i thought your inventory size increased every 5th or 10th level .. well damn time sure proved me wrong :D .. i must say i'm happy i was able to loot a 10spaces bag from a gnoll pup.. (and buying to bags from a vendor)

so to summarize: i'm advancing .. but i'm lacking on dammage.
i'm now in the zone "centaur hills" (since everything in newport cons green to me)
also most of the mobs gain the upperhand on me.. either becouse they are too strong.. or they gang up on me ! which isn't nice.. but understandable :D

i'm a bit clueless of it all actually.. since it's like i hit a roadblock .. hard to finds mobs in my range in that area. that i can sucesfully kill (without having to look for em all the time)

oh one more thing.. i tried to take the boat in newport but when it zoned it dissapeared.. left me in the sea with water around me as far as i could look... so the only way out (to me) was to drown myself.. sooo... where does that boat lead too normally.. and is it broken?

also: newport = qeynos? :D

either way i'm having FUN and in the end that's ALL what mathers!
big    too everyone !

Sorry if you mentioned it earlier, but what class are you playing at the moment? Spells are important obviously, and when you start getting a relatively stable income from monsters, you should probably purchase all of your spells. Concerning gear, you will likely find most coming from mobs. And you can probably find some game around Blackburrow, it's north-east of Newport in Centaur Hills.

And yeah the boats aren't fully functional at the moment. The boat from Newport heads to Erudin.

currently i'm walking the path of holyness.. i'm a cleric (7) a human one :)

it's a shame the boat doesn't work.. but then again i found out i can stay underwater for a LONG time .. so in the end i learned and learning is good :p

btw.. is anyone in my level range online now.. and in the mood for some co-slashndashin?

*edit* hmm i'm unable to log in and haven't changed my settings whatsoever since last time i logged in .. it tells me my password doesn't match my used id .. (and i'm sure i'm typing it correctly as it's REALLY easy!) i'm gonna try some more and check on the eqemu site and try enabling an account again.. but i'm afraid i'll whipe my own one if i do :(
.... what should i do?

*edit2* fount it :D might help you 2
