Alt-Tab & Windows XP

ok, I have been trying everything to get alt-tab to work.. I know it can be done on windows XP. so i must be missing somthing
I have intsalled Microsoft Compatibility Toolkit 3.0 ( Says it fixed the eq.exe so it would alt-tab ) And also installed EQ Windows. But still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?
Not sure if this has anything to do with it, But when i try and patch EQW it errors out, saying cant load eqw.dll

Any info on this would be nice, im out of ideas :? ;( :?

What resolution are you using on your desktop? What in game resolution? I use a smaller resolution in game so that when I alt tab, the screen is smaller than my desktop. From there, I just alt tab to a new program, usually I have a window open for Trillian.

Other than that suggestion, I can't think of anything. Anyone know if EQ W will perhaps negate the alt enter effect that comes standard?

alt+enter
then hit the 'windows' key (next to alt)
then click on EQ's blue bar (top of the EQ window)
mouse should be free.... sometimes it takes a couple tries.

I find alt+tab just crashes me... can use it once EQ is windowed though.

(to make the above easier I also have a 'show desktop' link on my quick launch bar, once the mouse is free if I click that I have no issues with EQ popping back up and taking over unwanted.)

Hope this makes sense.

.

Thanks for all the good info. I will give it a try and see what happens.
Whats the command to free the mouse?

Just go to the Option menu (ALT+O) and then go to the keyboard tab and then in the Select Category: got to UI. Find the one title "Release mouse cursor" (as show where the arrow is in the picture below) and then assign the key you want to use to release the mouse... Much easier than going into the .ini file to do it there.

Alright, this is how you get to Alt+tab with EQW.

1. Get the Microsoft Compatibility Toolkit 3.0.
2. Open up the applications drop down (+).
3. Go down to the Everquest part of this and click on it.
4. It should show eqgame.exe, then Compatability Fixes, IgnoreAltTab, then it should show Matching Files... blah blah blah.
5. Right click on the file that says eqgame.exe and then set it to disable entry and you should be able to alt+tab EQW everytime.

As far as I know, you only need to do this with Windows XP.

I have XP Pro and I get the same error when I try to use EQW. I don't know anything about a toolkit. That wasn't mentioned anywhere. I just unzipped it all into my EQ folder and it crashes. I have to use ctrl-alt-delete to get out of EQ.

Did that; it's a zip file with 3 files in it I think. There are no instructions or anything. I unzipped it to my EQ directory, and I also tried it in a seperate folder, but it gives the unable to find the dll file error. I finally gave up on it and I use the Microsoft 3 finger salute when I need to alt-tab.
