After 20 lvl of playing...

well, here are my first thoughts about BST.
Yesterday i played with Blend's BST, we leveled up pretty fast. Our duo of BST was doing a very good job in warrens (past lvl 15 without PL).

about the BST by himself :
H2H's skill is good. If you use a Ulak (common loot from newbie mobs, 3/15 i think), it becomes deadly, i don't imagine with a better weapon... Other skills, like 1HB or 2HB arent viable at that level.
kick works Ok. Slam is fine too.
At that level, i didnt paid attention to skill caps. i saw defense/h2h/dw raising, i don't remember any offense. 1HB raised too when i placed a mace in the off hand.

about the pet :
lvl 9 pet is perfect, used at damage dealer. A bit useless as tank.
lvl 15 pet gets the first proc spell that does 62 damages. It has a lots of HP and melees decently, and is lvl 16.
Obviously, when you ding 15, this pet is overpowered. Tho, like on live, BST gets their spells all the 7 lvl only, so you ll have that pet till 22. At that level, he isnt as overpowered. At lvl 20, it was still able to handle white cons mobs alone with only a few (89 hp) healings, which is in line with magician pets (that are a bit better perhaps, could be interesting to make mag/bst pet duel to see that).

I think i should report that my pet used a 1H rapier or a 2H staff when i gave it one, and was using it better than his bite skill (wolf). On live, BST pets were warriors (when i was playing at least), and were intended to use H2H as melee skill, so players were giving them weapons to make them use 1HB, 1HS or 1HP instead of H2H, they were doing (much) more damages that way. This has been nerfed by Verant so BST pets coudlnt use weapons anymore...

62 damages by proc seems a lot at lvl 15 (even at 20 in fact), it will raise by 10 for each new proc (if its like on live), and gain a 2s stun near the last levels. Its quite progressive, but not proportionnal to the mobs. I can then imagine that the class will become harder to play with the levels, like magician was. I enjoyed this, the difficulty of the game makes it being fun and its a good challenge to balance all this.

lvl 1 to 20 conclusion :
BST pets shouldnt be allowed to use weapons, nor other equipment. They should be seen as animals (BEASTlord) and not like summon beings able to use gear. Other points like skill caps will be tested next time.

I ll post my next impressions after my next game session!

I would have to agree with most every point Muuss made, but I've had different experiences in regards to a couple of the points.

Firstly, when you get the level 9 pet in the beginning, he's a pretty good tank. They can easily handle the mobs in the Unrest entrance and in the maze, but once you start moving into the yard itself, they do tend to run out of HP a little faster. Still, I don't think I ever had to remake a pet as a result of its death.

When Muuss left and I had to solo, I found blues pretty tough going. The pet could take the blue with a heal or two but, more often than not, if I got an add, I had to run (the pet heals at that level have a hard time dealing with two kobold elders). The other problem is; when you start healing your pet, the add will run over and proceed to savage you until your pet finishes up the other and comes to the rescue.

I, personally, didn't notice much of an increase in damage when I handed my staff to my level 15 pet. He was still hitting between 10 and 20, as far as I could tell, but I didn't watch too closely.

The rest I agree with completely.

The Ulaks need toning down a bit (I was hittting for approximately 20 damage every second and that was without dual wield).

The pets' procs do seem a little over-powered at 15 but, when you're fighting blues at level 20, the proc is the only thing that keeps you alive, really.

In conclusion:

Beastlords are quite enjoyable to play from 1 to 20 and have the ability to level up at a fairly reasonable rate compared to other classes but, as Deci said, I think this will be slowing down a bit because of the way the procs scale. Longer spaces between aquiring new pets (and pet heals) will see a big challenge coming in at 22 - 30, and will see the class becoming much more difficult (to solo with) after level 30. I haven't had much experience with pet classes before, but I imagine it would come in line with the others and I am pretty sure that a beastlord would always be welcome in a group. All in all, a promising class so far. :p
