Okay, so here's the question in my mind, and I haven't found other threads about it... depending upon how this works, this could make a HUGE difference in the way things work.
I've heard that the specilizations, when maxed, afford a 10% increase/decrease to their affected areas. For the case of this post, Energy/Defense is the (most) important one. It is to be noted that Focus/Mind with it's resist-reduction is important in the scheme of damage-doing, but it does not actually increase the damage done by the DoT, just situationally the damage taken by the mob. That said, here's the question....
Let's say I'm level 29, using the Boil Blood DoT spell as a Necromancer. This SHOULD end up doing a total of 432 damage, if none of the ticks are resisted/partially resisted, etc. Now comes the question: Does the effect from AE items stack on top of Spec, or are they both applied to base? Actually, another question that, once again, DOES matter at least slightly... With AE, does the % added apply iteratively (for lack of a better word) or as a single lump sum? Using our example:
0 AE, 0 Spec : Damage = 432
0 AE, Max Spec : Damage = 475.2
5 AE, 0 Spec : Damage = 496.8 (if 5 AE = 15% increase, done in a lump sum)
5 AE, 0 Spec : Damage = 500.8 (if 5 AE = (((((Base * 1.03) * 1.03) * 1.03) * 1.03) * 1.03))
Now, the original question comes in when you apply both AE and Spec.
5 AE, Max Spec : Damage = 550.89 (if spec and AE items stack, AE damage is figured iteratively)
5 AE, Max Spec : Damage = 546.48 (if spec and AE items stack, AE figured in lumps. This is what I think is likely happening)
5 AE, Max Spec : Damage = 544 (if they don't stack, AE damage figured iteratively)
5 AE, Max Spec : Damage = 540 (if they don't stack, AE damage figured in lumps)
I know the difference is somewhat negligible, since these amounts are over the whole life of the spell, which in this case is 18 ticks... which means the difference between the 'worst case' and the 'best case' is a whopping .555 damage per tick or a whopping .09 DPS. With the higher levels spells, and when you can apply higher levels of AE (I don't know what the limit is, if there is one), I'm sure the numbers would be slightly more impressive.
Anyone know the answers or have thoughts?
