advice on tomes coming back chanter

pocketbook is light so what are some cheap tomes that I could grab while farming back up the piggy?

The tome economy is in a pretty rough state since the CoP change. Hopefully tomes prices will level out in the next few months. I would say most "useful" tome I are at least 6k. Rarely you find them lower.

Your best bet in getting tomes is to farm them really. With old world dungeons now dropping some tomes, it's kind of nice.

If you're looking for trash tomes just to finish out our codex bonus I would recommend refuge pet tomes. Stat tomes will probably be the cheapest as well as the least useful, but considering you'll be getting CoP bonus while you level up the stat tome, it's worth it.

If your on really late, you can sometimes grab tomes for split for cheaper with not as many players being on.
