Adepts (opinions)

Wiz

NOT DONATING *EVER*
Alright, so we've had the Adepts for a while now, and more have been rolled in lately. Apart from the fact that they were a bit too easy originally (this has mostly been addressed, though another HP upgrade for Adepts might be in order...) they seem to be doing their purpose. So let's hear all of yours' experiences and opinions on these walking loot farms.

As far as HP, locations, etc this is an excellent idea that seems to be working very very well. Although I have yet to win any loot (grr) I have had fun killing em.

From a Rangers point of view, it would be very cool if there was a way to identify them on track. More times than I could count on one hand I have tracked down a mob only to find out it was an adept. This isn't a gripe, complaint, or anything even remotely close, just a comment :) . The only reason I even brought it up is because it's the only thing I could think of that was even remotely negative about the adept system.

I love 'em. Have three pieces of gear from them now. They've proven to be a challenge in almost all cases and it's always fun to try gettting a group set up to take one down (except for the cases when people are annoying and only care about what it drops rather than the experience of taking it down... x.x) My only real gripe about them is that I was part of a group to kill the Wind Hag back when I was lvl 20, I won Windfeather Pantaloons off her, they're extremely nice pants on their own but they have a proc "Harvest of the Wind" and even now that I'm 27, 2 levels above the engage level for her they still don't work. I suppose what I'm saying is that I'd like to see procs for adept items to start working closer to the actual engage level of the mob. I suppose I wouldn't have quite as much a problem with the pants not working if I even know what they did but whenever I ask about it all I get in response is people asking me where I got the pants, telling me how great the pants are, and asking me what the effect is...

Incredible idea for sure, although the /cmd bind is really making it easy, speaking of which my level 8 ranger and 3 other 8-9 killed grikk without even needing heals, and 2 people short at least, which is...easy for an adept. :)

Also, maybe it's more a comment than anything else, but 2 pieces seems very thin for harder adepts like the treants that require more than a simple group ( maybe 6 32 could do it not sure ) , i had the hassle of organizing a few of them and to be honest in the future i'm gonna be looking less and less inquired to organise more simply because

1) The time i lose TRYING To gather some people could give me more money
2) 2 pieces of equip off a mob, 1 i'm prolly not gonna use and the other one being rolled by 7 people, i dont have much chance of getting which goes back to point number one.

What keeps me doing them is meeting off nice and skilled people and just for the sake of saying " hey i killed X and Y... "

I guess you could lower the spawn rate or give 1 more piece of drop each time i dunno, just my 2 cents, i probably sound greedy.

Edit: also, it would be nice if they would do random scripts in battle ( sorry for my poor english ), what i mean is that Spec hunter could, in one battle, DD lifetap for 250 points of damage somewhere in the battle, and another battle, could AoE poison.. etc etc... would make battle more challenging, a lot more . :)

I killed grikk with zodiak yesterday, and I agree with most of his points but one thing is important to know:
We had 2 melees with good gear for their level (zodiak and me), and it takes forever to organize a raid at that level simply because it's so hard to find people in that level range. I think everything is all good, but the spawn rate could be a little less, then they won't have to drop more stuff but you can kill them more ;)

it would be cool to see a "king of the adepts" sort of mob.. for 65's... kind've making a 'completeness' to the adept line

Well you already have the lvl 60 adept dragon no? But a lvl 65 adept does seem like just your average raid target.

Raid mobs designed for 30 people drop 3 pieces of loot -- it'd be really unbalanced for Adepts to drop more than 2.

If anything, I'd like to see adept spawn times lengthened. It seems like somebody's taking the Haunted Treant every day or so. I'm not sure what their loot table looks like but it seems like with adepts spawning so often the gear they drop isn't really quite so wonderful, and becomes more common rather than as rare as it should be. This would screw up people like me who are trying to get as much adept gear as possible but if it means that that piece I got lucky with is slightly more one of a kind then so be it, I don't mind tailoring my levelling to the adepts that I've killed at all.

Cool. I don't suppose you'll tell me what the effect Harvest of the Wind does would you? It's on the windfeather pantaloons and I'm now 27 (2 levels above the engagement level for her) and it still doesn't work. The +agi effect on the headband procced for Narm at 24 when he got it.... x.x knowledge of when the effect will start working would also be appreciated if nobody knows/wants to tell me what the effect is... sorry but I'm going crazy right clicking it each time I level in a vain hope that THIS will be the level that it starts working.

P.S. I -do- understand the idea of wait vs reward though so... I'm simply hoping that whatever it is when it starts working it's something that is really extremely useful.

Would it be possible to have a named mob type somewhere, maybe an npc in some dungeon 'a battleworn adventurer' type person who needed level 65's to kill and dropped a random piece of adept loot (in the same way that cmal stuff drops random quest armour), this means that its not locked off to people who missed the adepts and such - not giving an easy alternative as the spawn and loot table would be huge and nice things really rare?

I agree with Tarpy in that I'd like to see some kind of adept indicator on track. Like Tarx Stormfeather the Adept or Adept Tarx Stormfeather or Tarx Stormfeather -A. Yes, its not terribly realistic, but neither is restricing the level range.

I dislike anything along the lines of trivial loot code, but for the gear these things drop, I'd try to kil them at higher levels so it's probably necessary.

So far the only adept I have fought has been the Beetle Queen (3 times), but I find myself looking forward to the series of adepts with anticipation. They provide a set of goals or things to do, a way to organize or structure the levelling process. I like that.

In fact, the ladder of goals to work towards is more important for me than the dropped gear.

I remember on live that folks would switch from levelling to pure aa at level 52 so they could kill vox and naggy again and again, hoping for their one rare drop that they needed. I did not think that was a healthy pattern for the game - so be careful not to make the adept drops too good and not to make them required for any major quests. But you knew that.

Our guild downed the Treant 3 times, and the bird in Starfall once. We are currently scouting for more adepts our level since we are raising in levels. I love raiding the adepts......pure fun. As for loots matters, no int caster gear has dropped once during the four raids we have done. So I haven't even got to roll on adept gear, but I'm looking forward to seeing some goodies in the future!
