A Quick Guide to Winter's Roar

NOT DONATING *EVER*
The point of this guide is to give a quick overview of what's different when playing Winter's Roar, as opposed to EQLive or other EMU servers, and to give beginners and veterans alike some insight into the server.

After following the signup instructions and activating your account, you will find yourself in Great Divide or Mistwoods, depending on your race/class choice. This is completely normal. Inside the city you will find merchants, bankers, as well as your guild, complete with trainers, spell merchants, and quite often, quests.

There are quite a lot of quests on Winter's Roar. Cities are full of them, and even some non-playable races of NPCs will have series of quests (For example, the Niklothar and the Othmir) that might make it worth befriending them. Practically every race/class combo have or will have a newbie quest, which can produce a nice reward. Talk to as many NPCs as you possibly can. You will find out lore, quests, and information that you would otherwise have missed out on.

When venturing out into the zones, you will notice that the NPCs in the zones are different from EQlive. Outdoor zones often have more spacing between the mobs, and the mobs themselves carry other names, other levels, and other loot. Additionally, NPCs have a number of abilities and settings not on EQlive, and primal to what kind of NPC it is. Finally, they have varying degrees of intelligence. A wolf won't be too clever, and is likely to just throw itself at nearest target and keep attacking, but a gnoll will be more careful, and a gnoll caster will be pretty selective when using its spells, which to use, and on who. Don't be surprised if an NPC pulls a nasty trick on you.

#help normal will display a list of vital commands. Some of these are mostly cosmetic, for example #petname, while others affect important settings, such as #group and #style. If at any time you have issues, you can contact a GM via /petition.

The boards and IRC chat are invaluable sources of information, and places to find more experienced players. Additionally, they can provide you with sneak peeks of what's to come on the server.

Most of all, remember that Winter's Roar IS heavily custom. This is not EQlive, so don't get too fooled by the familiarity of the game.

Most of all, welcome to the server, and have fun.
