I have for the rest of you a question concerning necromancer lore, or rather if this little brainwave I had would end up fitting in with the genral worldview. It involves, so far, only the cultists of entrophy and none of the other groups(particularly the iksars and the drow...because the iksar's background lore seems already well established, and the drow I'm not exactly qualified to deal with). I appolotize in advance for any unclarity due to cough syrup.

Basicly a person wishing to become a necromancer starts out, generally, as either a scribe or an errend boy. after that they're allowed to progress up in the latter, yet without being taught any spells just yet, to helping with the laboritory stuff. After the supplicant does this(both to adjust to the work enviroment and to aid in the collective studies and or works of the whole group) generally follows a ritual that will decide if the student is deemed ready to start learning or not. This ritual boils down to a person drinking a fast acting poison which either outright kills or leaves a person's body at a point so close to death that the spirit flees. After their spirit/soul/ka/mind/whatever escapes a higher level necromancer binds it so that it is stuck to this plane. While in this state the student is to go and visit the world at large, experiance the powers and pains of unlife, and learn the nature of the creatures necromancers hold power over and, to an extent, attempt to become, through their studies in addition to weeding out those that would not make such a commitment towards their work. At the end of the third day the supplicant normally would reenter his still dead body just before it is restored to health. Generally at this time is when Supplicants are also drawn into a dreamlike state where they gain their first spells and are put on the first step of a much broader quest.

I came up with this months ago more or less as an excuse as to why i was absent for a long weekend, at least ICly speaking,. During that time Id let a friend of mine play around with my character on the condition tht he not say anything. This of course led people to ask why if I wasn't there they saw me here and there within the world. Granted at the time Jeric was well past the stage where people normally would've been put into this death-ritual, however because his father is a druid the elders felt it prefferable, at first, to not mark him so because he could further pump the man, or so they thought, for information, how druidic magics worked, ect ect.

I bring this up now because I was going to write a bit of a story involving the time Jeric had t ogo through this whole thing and I had gone to Wiz asking for his premission since I didn't know how well mapped out the lore was yet. It seems Wiz's response, no disrespect intended, was a bit of a let down because it boiled down to 'so long as you feel it fits with the lore and setting of Dalaya in general I don't get involved in specific character related issues.' Its understandable since, after all, its unlikely that even he has the entire lore hammered out yet and being overbearing about what people can and cannot have with characters would end up making him unpopular(that and who has TIME to deal with all the nitpicky issues anyway?).

Long and short, since this is the rp forum, I wanted everyone's oppinion before pulling any stunts on that order.

As a final note yes this is up in the necro forums but due to the absolute and utter lack of any form of response I'm taking this question to the community as a whole.

I'm new to SoD but one of the things that appealed to me about the server was the presence of an actual role playing community helping to drive the story lines of the game. I'm currently working on a Necro as one of my chars and I've been charmed by the presence of the Cult of Entropy and it's something I would like to see more of.

Having the presence of more inspired Necromantic lore, as well as possibly more In-Character lores based on the other magics of the land, would be really good for adding to the background of the story. I think half of the coolness factor for me and my fiance playing on this server has been we felt like we actually have characters participating in a world and not just toons running around the screen. Anyways, kinda ranting on now.

My main point:
I think as long as people aren't trying to carve out stories that completely change the flow of what Wiz has started (because, for all intents and purposes, he IS god here) that adding in fictional interpretations of the lore and magics of the land will do no harm and could only improve the feel of the game to those who are seeking a world to immerse themselves in as opposed to leveling their characters for l33t purposes *shudders*

Just my two cents.
