Darian Maliken
Dalayan Beginner
We've all heard the stories of monks who have, through long years of reflection and meditation shed their corporeal forms for higher levels of existance. There've been many accounts of wizards, through years of study and preperation, gaining immortality. While reletivly few there've also been tales of clerics that've been picked by the Godd/Goddess of their choice to leave the planes of mortals to exist on the much fairer(or darker as the case may be) places where the Gods dwell. Druids live on through nature, and in some very rare instances return to this life, even if in the form of some overly cute woodland creature...or a tree. Those that live by the sword have stories of being granted a kind of immortality through valor, or as the case may be simple bloodymindedness coupled with a story worthy of bardic tales. Even those that live their lives by singing songs and telling tales of heroic, barbaric, dark, and any other deed exuberent enough to merit retelling gain their own sort of immortality through the works they leave behind. This last may indeed be the most importaint because while the other professions mentioned above have tales of those that've somehow ascended to an existance byond that of mortals, it is the humble, yet often times overlooked bard, that ends up weaving the tales around those lives, thus making their memory as well as their lives, last through the ages.
See where I'm going with this? nearly every faith, creed, culture, and adventuring profession have examples of those that've somehow cheated Death his due. Some of you will note that I have left out lichdom and those that seek that path as a way to remain on this plane. Why omit this rout to eternal life, especially when it seemingly affords the recipiant many worthwhile advantages to the above methods without any real disadvantage if you're willing to go this route. After all you gain eternal life on this plane, meaning you don't have to worry about any lifestyle changes caused by moving to a different plane of existance, apparent eternal youth reguardless of what age you achived lichdom at, a massive increase to your magical abilities, due to the fact that you're likely going to be a necromancer(or possibly a shadow knight) when you decide to become a lich the knwoledge to 'ascend' to this form will lay within the natural course of your studies so its not like you would have to go out of your way for the infromation, plus the fact that since you're still on the material plane you still have all the rescources you've accumulated throughout your mortal life at your disposal.
With all of this going for you why not pass up the more intensive paths to eternal life for something that would apparently be within your means. I shall tell you both what goes into becomming a lich, and what sustaining yourself as a lich entails. Please note that I will not go into specific details about any of the spells, rituals, and or inherintly dangerous, to the uninitiated, material components.
1. Wait untill your prowess as a spellcaster reaches approximatly the one hundredth level of initiation.
1A. Normally this is impossible merely by adventuring since even the least seasoned adventurer of any sort will tell you that there are only sixty five levels of power within a given field, and normally they are quite correct. However, unless the Gods on high deem at a later date to change the rules adventuring within Dalaya works by, it IS possible to attain further levels of knowledge and skill, but only through seclusion from the world prefferably at a location where two or more ley lines cross, a mana fountain exists, or in some other form is a site where great quantities of power are readily avalible.
1B. In addition if you wish to surpass the supposed power cap, mind you I am going on what I've encountered through research and not by face to face encounters with any form of sentiant life(or at least not any that was willing to let me interview them on the matter) it is advised that you consoult your deity of choice and ask for their assistance since, from what I've gathered at least, it takes close to a century if not longer to accumulate this much knowledge and skill and if you wish to still posess a physical form capible of effectivly directing this power you will require either devine intervention, or several live sacrifices.
1C. The beings being sacrificed, contrary to popular belief, neither need be women nor vergin. However these two qualities help matters greatly for women are the bringers of life to the world, and those that have yet to know another's touch are generally at the greatest possible potency.
2. Once you have gained the requisite power you must gather several material components. Since I am working off memory, many of the requisite component names having long and hard to propperly spell names, several of the needed components being quite hazardous to gather, plus the fact that several can(if impropperly used) cause a variety of mental illness I shall leave these items unlisted.
2A. I will however make mention that many of these items can be gathered within the ruins of the firt city and that several others are needed for items that one would normally expect a necromancer to attain.
2B. There is a necromancer living near the ruins of the first city that, as rumor goes, has several tomes on the subject as well as a complete list of the requisite material components.
3. With these components combine them in the manner prescribed within [title witheld] on the spring solstace while making a human sacrifice both to boost the power of the spell with hte release of the victam's life force as well as to use the blood to mix with a carefully ground down mix of ingrediance.
3A. As with any sacrifice it need neither be female, or vergine. However in this instance it does need to be of the same race the spell caster is as well as at least half the age of the caster. A life for a life as they say.
3B. Also it greatly aids in matters if the sacrafic is of someone that has yet to reach maturity.
4. This is the step that even the most dedicated often faulter at. The ritual must conclude with the caster using a prpared copper blade(it is VITAL that this blade remain unenchanted!) stab themselves in the heart.
5. If all has gone according to plan, and those plans were correct you will now be a lich.
5A. To maintain the appearance of life without regular visits to an enchanter one must always keep an enchanted item of any sort in contact with their skin. Otherwise as time passes the caster will take on the appearance of a decicated corpse.
5B. To maintain your enhanced magical power you must sacrifice of one person of the same race as used in the initial ritual once every seven years else your power will diminish to what it was before the ritual begain which, while stil lquite formitable, will be orders of magnitude less than they had become.
...and this is the easy way of achiving even a semillance of eternal life.
Why am I writing this in such a fashion that it can be easily distributed to the masses? I have very little fear of reprisal as most of those from newport's necromancy community probably believes me either dead or retired and I feel that it is worth the very minimal risk to allow the masses to know what goes on in 'our' darkest of rituals, which isn't much really. The hardest part, so far as Iv'e been able to find, is breeching the general limit on power and prowess imposed from on high. After that it is a reletivly simple matter to, either directly or via underlings or hired help, gather the requisite materials if one hasn't been gathering them already.
I leave the floor, such as it is, open for discussion, speculation, and questions which I may or may not be capible of answering.
