Yes, my suggestion is just what the thread title says it is. Here's a rundown:
The good news: There are a lot of new players recently. This is very good news!
The bad news: Almost none of them have any idea of the lore.
The worse news: They are all "zomg i <3 teh karnor's fried trains lol i miss kunrak'
The news that'll be worse: They're going to be a bit disappointed when they realize it isn't Kunark, though the zone geometery is going to be the same.
The wrong way to handle it: Getting mad and frustrated
---
How I suggest handling it: Some kind of Event with a lore-teaching basis. It's been a long time since the lore has been discussed in a frank manner. Perhaps as a pre-cursor to the implementation of the Plane of Lore, there could be some event supposedly run by followers of Jayla allowing for some education purposes. There could be Trollipops and no rent stat food/drink to encourage people to come, and even some little new things like an update on the funding of Athica could be mentioned.
I can hear half you out there saying "the lore is on the forums. If they cared they'd read it." Okay, yes, some of them would. That said, giving more of the new people a reason to care (staff involvement) would encourage at least some awareness of just how deadly Kaezul is and that Ikisith isn't going to be some happy "yay we get to populate another continent with no effort whatsoever, race ya to old sebilis!" waltz across the Kunark of Live a decade ago.
Besides, getting people who have been here a while to reminisce about the Lands of Magic, Kelethin being a death trap, the formation of the Bearers of Truth, the establishment of Athica, and maybe even Dark Rot (which looms to return in the not-so-distant future), can't be a bad thing. This game has been rather dynamic and constantly moving away from the "this is how it is on Live" syndrome that some zones and zone names can cause (I'm looking at you, Blackburrow, Halas, and a lot of Frostfang and the Lands of Magic).
Helping our new influx of players to understand and appreciate this can only be a good thing. I know, the "I miss Live, why isn't everything here exactly the same?" sentiment will always exist with certain players, but I think most new people will appreciate our (okay, Wiz's) actually-dynamic "this isn't Live" world.
End block of text.
