A Few General Questions...

Hail all,

I've been looking around the boards for some time now, and I've also done some research on the Wiki site. After doing that, I've come up with a few questions that would greatly help me and my brother in getting started. We are looking to do a 4 man team (don't worry.. I'm not going to ask you what combos you think are best :p ) , but even though I'm an EQ vet, I'm approaching this like I've read on the boards - not like the classes I knew from EQ. With that, here's the questions.. any and all that you get a chance to answer would be most appreciated, and I apologize if the answers to some of these are lying around and I've just missed it...

*These are asked with the later levels in mind, unless there's a significant difference at lower levels

1) Do monks or beastlords make viable tanks in most/some/few situations? Moreover, how do bards and rangers size up as tanks when compared to their old forms?

2) Do you keep using the melee stance you pick (unless it's one that's dependent on something like endurance or stamina?). For instance, if I had a monk and picked the level 10 cold proc, would I keep that until I changed to another one?

3) Are slows as needed or less needed than they were in Everquest? I'm pretty sure, from what I've read, that they aren't quite as necessary, but I wanted to confirm that.

4) Does the mage water pet really have a special attack that's a slow? Additionally, can mage pets take/hold aggro from players?

5) Is it possible to run sound for one SoD window and off for the other?

I believe this is all for now... I'll post again if we think of something else. Thanks for your time and help =)

Monks are excellent tanks. They are the next best after warriors and pal/sk.

2) Do you keep using the melee stance you pick (unless it's one that's dependent on something like endurance or stamina?). For instance, if I had a monk and picked the level 10 cold proc, would I keep that until I changed to another one?

Generally, yes. I've noticed that my mage seems to drop his stance if I sit but my ranger can pretty much stay in his chosen style indefinitely.

3) Are slows as needed or less needed than they were in Game? I'm pretty sure, from what I've read, that they aren't quite as necessary, but I wanted to confirm that.

Slows are nice, but not as critical here as on Live.

4) Does the mage water pet really have a special attack that's a slow? Additionally, can mage pets take/hold aggro from players?

Earth pet proc's root. Air procs a DD/stun. Water a DD/25% slow. Fire has a DD. HP goes earth->water/air->fire. Reverse the order for DPS. The pets can take aggro if you don't give the tank at least a few seconds to build up some hate. This is especially true with the air/water pets as pets always open the fight with their special and these two generate quite a bit of hate when they proc.

5) Is it possible to run sound for one SoD window and off for the other?
Never tried that.

For the sound question...

In the options found at the connect/account/etc screen, choose options.

On one of the screens, check the sound box. In the other, do not.

Uhm, stances, from what I've seen, are dependant on stamina. When your stamina runs out, you stop whatever stance you're in and return to the default. Your stamina also ticks downwards at about 1 per tick while you're in any non-default stance.

Perhaps at higher levels this is offset by something, but at lower levels (20ish, where I'm at), I cannot keep a stance on indefinitely.
