So since the thread about the ranger /stance 7 (flurry of shots) went down the crapper, i decided to bring it up again and propose a possible change to make it somewhat more useful for the Ranger class. Also, i want to discuss the usefullness of the Ranger's "Guardian of the Forest" AA.
Some points that were brought up about Ranger's stance 7 were that it burned through all of our stamina for a near useless effect. For those that don't know it allows Rangers to shoot two shots per round until stamina is exhausted. This equates to roughly 8-16 rounds of attack, depending on your total stamina and bow delay. The gripe here is that after this stance is used, the ranger is left with no stamina for another 15 minutes, which i was told reduces damage output by ~20%.
I know that in my case this ability is never used, and i've spoke to other rangers that've said the same. Its just not efficient at all, considering that for real DPS we would use our stance 8 to guarantee a higher hit percentage throughout an encounter.
What I propose is that stance 7 be changed to something along the lines of ranger's stance 5 (whirling strikes) where it does deplete stamina, but at a much slower rate than stance 7. And instead of it being a guaranteed 2 shots per round til exhausted, give it a % chance to do a double shot, with the ability to switch out the stance if desired.
Now about the Guardian of the Forest AA. This ability, according to a parser grants at
level 1) 5% overhaste + 100atk.
level 2) 10% overhaste + 120atk
level 3) 15% overhaste + 140atk
With a duration of 48 seconds (8 ticks) and a recast of 15 minutes. Sad part being that it doesn't stack with bard overhaste, Takes up a spell slot, And also doesn't stack with Beastlord Savagery.
With all the complaints of darkrot and Wiz already granting HoT's to be moved to the song window, I do not expect this ability to also be moved to the song window (though, since it doesn't stack with bard overhaste, this would be a nice fix).
I was psyched to hear what a potentially great AA this could be, and bought it as soon as i heard the effects of it. But as for using this in a raid environment its not really worth it since it overwrites savagery, has a very short duration followed by a very long recast, and again doesn't stack with bard over haste.
Ideally i'd like to see this ability stack with all of the above. Alternatively, i'd like to see the duration increased and/or recast reduced. Lastly but not likely, i'd like to see if it's able to be put in a song window to atleast give it some more utility (although i do remember wiz saying that this won't happen for any other spells aside from HoT's, so i don't expect this change to occur).
With all the Ranger 'modifications' that've taken place lately, I don't see these changes being overpowering. I'd like to hear other opinions or concerns on the topic.
And please refrain from talking about other classes stances/AA's in this thread.
Thanks for reading. :hmph:
