2hander vs 2 1 handers

Is there a good rule of thumb to follow when it comes to this? I am playing a 65 Beastlord and I can never figure out which is better. If stats on the weapons is not an issue, what is better for the casual raider. I am thinking of it from a purely DPS view point. I'll give an example.

hands 13/18 and 1hb 11/17 vs a 2hb 48/37.

Let's also say the BL has Melee Mastery 3 and Beastial Frenzy 5.

Thank you for any advice.

parser is the best way. There are big negatives for using 2handers is your h2h has a base of +5 skill over 2hb, 1hb, and pierce, then your mq aug has another +5h2h, and there is a ton of +h2h gear for BST. So your hit rate and atk is always going to be higher with h2h weapons than anything else.

So the 2h has to be way better to make up for that

I believe 2handed weapons have a 10% bonus dmg supposedly so parse it yourself and see

Wesell's parses show "5% or less" bonus for 2h over 1h although Wiz pointed out (and Manguadi interpreted/clarified) that the data Wesell parsed may be somewhat inaccurate due to client-side truncation.

Yeah I was using mithril weapons because they are easy to obtain and don't have any stats on them. I never got around to re-running these tests with higher damage weapons, but I'll give it another shot with a knight weapon to see how that turns out. Anybody watching this keep in mind the test weapon will have stats so you might have to live with some small inaccuracy.

I dont think I've seen a single 2h weapon wielded past level 50 for what it's worth. Seems that knights aren't too concerned about dps (only holding aggro and not dying) and no one else is willing to give up dual wielding for what 2h weapons offer... I'd keep 2h skills maxed just in case some oober weapon drops in a raid someday... the only reason my monk hasn't is that I've yet to find a 2h worth using... and all the one's I see auctioned are worse than my fists. I'll break down and buy some crappy one some day just to skillup... but m advice to a new monk/bst is to pick up one of the mith 2hb... max fists then switch to 1hb's (or have a single 1hb and a fist dual wielded) then when both of those are maxed switch to 2hb every level to keep it as close to max as possible. Grinding combat stats at high levels is not much fun.

Of the weapons you posted... I'd think bare fists both hands would be best dps for ya.

No way in heck I would give up dual wield to use a 2hb on my bst. Not unless I were to get some uber drop in a raid. With not getting double attack, it isn't worth losing the offhand attacks, IMHO.

As for knights using 1hander and shield, usually they only seem to get in groups to be tanks, so they usually go for the extra ac to help them do that. Why give up 25+ base ac for a couple extra dps (if that)? The only time I see them even bother, is when they have picked up one of those sweet lances, or when their aggro is high enough that can afford to work on skill-ups.

Wesell, thanks, man! I've been using your % as a rule-of-thumb... figured, off the cuff, that the truncation would've affected both your 8dmg 1h and 8dmg 2h results more-or-less the same. In any case, I appreciate the parses you did since weighing options was a guessing game beforehand.

... the only reason my monk hasn't is that I've yet to find a 2h worth using... and all the one's I see auctioned are worse than my fists.

You want to have a 2hb on hand for mobs with DS. Your hp will go down VERY fast using your fists.

But yes, buyable 2hb out there are pretty worthless otherwise.

Also consider, mostly for soloing, that you will lose less attack rounds while casting when using a weapon with a longer delay.
