2-boxing

Jinsai

Dalayan Beginner
Does everyone on this server 2-box? I'm thinking of quitting EQLive and starting up here but i've never 2-boxed and from what I read it sounds as if everyone who plays here does.

Edit: Wow someone's already taken the name Jinsai on WR.. never saw that coming. >.<

Not everyone does it, some just dont have the connection or system to. It makes getting exp a little easier when you can't find a good group and getting raids going faster when you need a little more of a specific class that just may not be logged on at the moment.

It's no replacement for grouping though.

Well I was just hoping that either groups are still findable 1-60 or that monks are a quite capable soloing class, because that's what class im going to play and I really don't want to be forced to 2-box to progress past a certain level due to lack of groups and lack of ability to solo. If a lot of people do something, it's usually for a reason..

With monks its kinda cool because they ARE good at soloing, but binding wounds can be really slow. Usually what happens is you will make a shaman to /follow your monk around planning on just using the buffs and heals during downtime and letting em steal some of your xp...

THEN, you learn to love the class and don't wanna miss out on all the valuable utility spells like slows, dots, mana regen, or whatever.

OR, you make a cleric and grow to love that class.

Ditto look me up in game, you know the name ;).

You need to post more Karm. I have a bet going on whether you will top 1000 posts before you hit 50.

OK I will, seriously I don't understand why people in Ruin and GotW give a crap how much I post... If you only mean it in good natured jesting then I apologize but some people really have a problem with me posting as much as I do.

Honestly WHO CARES how much I post. I don't say innane crap, I don't make pointless "gratz me ding Feign Death (130), I R l337" posts.

I know that IRC is the preferred mode of communication for this server, but I'm just more used to Message boards.

I post like this on just about every board that I join but on most of them it is unimportant and unnoticed because there's a lot of traffic. I really don't know why there isn't more communication on this board.

The trading forum especially. It seems very silly that we don't use this resource as a compendium of quest info, newbie info, etc...

Maybe the ooc channel wouldn't be spammed with questions ALL THE TIME if people did post here more.

I'm not exactly hurting bandwidth by submitting 10 lines of text. And there are never more then 3 new topics per day so I'm not bumping stuff off the front page...

/rant off

Sorry, I know I over reacted but some people are really bothered by the fact that I post a lot.

Well, one : take a deep breath and relax :p Was just joking. The only people that really annoy me are those that respond to a post about issues they know nothing about(like lvl 40s posting they think post60 spell drops are fine, or that AA xp is too easy).

As for why these forums arent used more than they are, Im not sure. Certainly we have enough active players. I know one of the reasons I stopped postig about topics as much as I used to is it seemed to alienate the GMs. So since that wasnt how I meant it, I figured for the most part Id just keep bugging things that I find bad and leave it at that, since Id rather just go with the flow for the most part.

Anyway, keep posting, I want a new charm.

LMAO which one are you gonna get if I hit 1k first? And watch out I'm about to ding 30 .

I've been duoing a lot more lately and foregoing questing or /lfging :b.

Thank you for your reply though, I'm glad you were joking :p

Q

i'm not joking when i say

woot!

grats me on FD(171).. im so leet, but why does it still fail so much?? /wave silandro

no really, what i'm curious about is 2boxing on one box.. i got a decent machine now, 2.something ghz processor and 5something ram.. can it be done if i turn down all the visual goodies and run EQWindows? if so will somebody give me the process to do so.. thanks and all that.

Well, a few things.. Monks are NOT good for soloing on WR... You might be able to solo at level 29, but wait until 40. Mobs hit way too hard on WR for a melee class to solo straight melee. Sure, you can kill a mob solo (WITH great gear, and mend up and working), but the downtime is just ridiculous. Past 45-50ish, there is no way you will be able to solo dark blues. Unless 1 kill every.. 20 minutes or so is your idea of good soloing.

If you can't two-box or Dual client (I'll talk about DC later), and you don't want to rely on groups, monk is not the best choice. Your better at picking a group friendly class, or a good solo'er.. Or, you can have the best of both worlds and make an Enc. I'd say make a Cleric, Enc, Bard, or Wiz... 4 classes this server needs more of... Just pick a class that you will stick with, whatever it is.. except beastlord.

Karm... if you spent the time you spend here, in-game leveling.. You would be close to 60. I think the biggest annoyance is that you respond to just about every post/question with your answer... Using general common sense answers, that usually help no one, are not constructive, or provide incorrect info (think socializing pick lock). I mean, you even went as far as making a poll and bringing up the topic of the exp debt.. A level 29 hasn't even touched the tip of the life of exp debt (and you were lower level then). Exp debt to a lvl 29 is considerably different than the exp debt to a lvl 60. The point is, that no matter how many posts you do have, your level determines your status on WR (until the higher levels). You can have 6000 posts, but still be considered a newbie due to your low level, because no one that is considerably higher level than you will listen to or trust your advice about in-game issues on WR (and in-game issues are primarily what this board is for). But hey.. most people get enjoyment playing, you get enjoyment posting.. Do what you will, but have fun. I'm just letting you know why some people in the high-end game give you trouble.

As far as Dual Clienting goes.. My computer is flat out pathetic. 1.2ghz, 254ram, cable internet.. And I can dual client.. But, I have to be in a dungeon type zone, that is for the most part uncrowded. And, it takes a while to get both clients up and running. That being said, with your computer being twice as fast as mine, as long as you have a good connection, you should be able to DC fine using EQW. I'd lower all the visuals, the most important one is turn 3d sky off.

Dual-Clienting is mostly about RAM instead of processing speed since you're only going to be focused on 1 of the 2 EQW windows. Hard RAM is faster to access than virtual RAM, and so having more RAM will allow more space to "store" information about the 2 clients. Anything over 1GHz is good enough to dual client.

^-- My experience.

heh

Monks arent good solo'ers past 40 like wazeek has stated. mobs simply hit too hard and we don't dish out enough DPS to compensate. Sometimes I can't even take out a blue con with mend up. I am extremely well geared for my level I'd like to think (full wyvernhide, stalker leg earring, kelp covered sandals/shoulders, and a 2hb weapon that is 32 damage 35 delay from DN etc), and I can't solo for crap. I would follow wazeeks advice.

Why not a beastlord to solo? arent they good soloers? :brow:

Because it's an ongoing joke on WR that beastlords are the worst class to ever be put in EQ.

It goes like this.. For a guild, a raid, and a group:

(slows/buffs/heals) Beastlord or Shaman? Shaman

(pet DPS/tanking/usefulness) Beastlord or Magician? Magician

(melee+pet class DPS) Beastlord or SK? SK

So.. get used to soloing.

^-- More jokes, don't take it too seriously.

By the way, the quote you pulled out isn't listing the solo classes. It's listing classes that the server needs more of... Notice how cleric is on the list, and necromancer isnt?

That's not the list the server needs, that's the list that the guilds need, if you ask me. The server needs the classes that there are the fewest off, to get a better respond on what needs to be changed about that class.

As for the original question:
Does everyone on this server 2-box? I'm thinking of quitting EQLive and starting up here but i've never 2-boxed and from what I read it sounds as if everyone who plays here does.
No, everyone does not DC (or 2-box as you call it), but most does, and if you ask me, that's what makes it possible to get a group (AKA get the classes needed to start a group).

After level 40, monks have a bit of difficulty soloing, unless, as Wazeek said, you love down time.

I love down time.

Just about the only thing Beastlords offer is Spiritual Purity, and even then it isnt that great when you have a chanter casting KEI on you. Techincally they are a hybrid which means they wont be better at anything their seperate parts do singly. They dont fight as good as monks and their spells are way behind shamans. These are the 2 key areas people want monks and shamans around.

Why would anyone want a L65 monk that cant FD or shaman who cant Canni 5, AA slow, and heal more then a couple hundred hp a spell.
