1017 "need to re-run patcher" error

"Error 1017: Cannot login to Everquest server.
You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the Patch Server. This is usually temporary."

Well, I patched when I first got this message, downloaded the files. Went to login and got this again... and again. So I should just wait? Or is there some simple problem I can work out myself instead of waiting say 4 hours and getting the same message again?

same thing is happening to me. I crashed when i gated and keep getting 1017 error.
