1/4 second lag when opening any window in-game..

As the topic suggests, whenever I open the map/inventory/cast spells/anything, I get a good 1/4 second or so freeze in the game before it pops up. I've disabled all anti-virus software and deleted them off of my computer, and I still have the problem. I've had this problem the year or so I've been playing, and only found out it was a bug recently when I mentioned it in /ooc.. It happens to me on at least 3 different computers, so I don't know what in the world could be causing it.

i am wounder with this problem are you boxxing??? if so that your problem. if not they will want to know what vidio card your using as this might also be the problem best of luck to you. hason the warrior

I don't know what AVG is. I still have remnants of McAfee on my computer, despite having deleted it twice.. It might still be affecting the performance, I guess.. I am also not boxing, and not sure on my video card, and not sure how to check.

Just so everyone else knows, I've looked through 30 pages of topics looking for this problem, and done a good 10 searches using all the keywords I can think of for this problem.

With AVG (and probably with Norton because every few seconds Norton finds some new way to be completely fucking awful), it's the resident scanner--every time the client tries to open one of its billion little files, the antivirus wants a crack at it, and that's what causes the delay. In AVG, you go under Resident Shield and disable it; with Norton, you pray to whoever you think made you, because Norton sucks. Seriously, it takes forever to clean Norton off a computer, and it's too complicated to explain here--If I were you, I'd try and get Norton the rest of the way off your computer, then snag a different antivirus (like AVG).

Argh, I said Norton, didn't I? I meant McAfee. Stupid brain, it's all addled inside of that empty melon. All I've had on this computer right now is Search and Destroy and McAfee(Which I've tried deleting like three times now) Sorry for the mix up, will edit my previous post for new readers who try and help. Oddly enough, that one little delay is the only thing that's stopped me from getting as addicted to SoD as I have/had with gAmE.

Ok, problem = solved. Apparently, despite deleting 9/10's of McAfee's files, it was still running a single program somehow.(Why does it feel the need to run like 12 programs at once on system startup continually?) I managed, with it running, to delete most of the folder, so now on startup it gives me an error about a critical .dll missing, so it doesn't run. I can now play without that lag.

I expect to start playing a lot more often and getting addicted to SoD as bad as I was to Live.. Sadly, I'm still getting sorted out after moving, but will be glad to resume being a platinum donator at some point..

P.S. Could we get this problem added to the faq or something? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem, and It's not an easily searched for problem.. Nor found going 30 pages of topics back.

Get AVGFree, It's so much simpler, and . . well . . Free. I would say one of the better AntiVirus out there. Then disable it while running EQ like Thinkmeats said, and you're all good. I had the same problem, and turning off the program or shutting it down didn't work. It must be disabled, which is simple(three mouse clicks if I'm remebering correctly.)

McAfee isn't actually that bad. I'm sure if you figured out how to turn off its resident shield you'd be fine, but now that it's gone it's probably more trouble than it's worth.
