Default Guest Locks

Because we're tired of getting petitions from people who thought it was a good idea to give half the server access to their accounts and woops one of those people was not trustworthy, I'm implementing Guest Lock.

/cm guestlock on [password] will guest lock your character with the password specified. Using this command on any account without the permission of the original owner (similar to changing pws) is bannable. If the original owner doesn't play and left the account to you, you may also use this. This command obviously will not work if a guestlock is already in place.
/cm guestlock off [password] with the right pw input will remove the guestlock permanently (until it's turned back on with guestlock on)

A guest locked character, when logged into, will be unable to do any of the following things:
- Destroy items
- Destroy money
- Trade away items to other characters (can still be given things from others)
- Use the listsold system
- In any other way or fashion make items or money leave the character

In order to do these things, you must type /cm guestunlock [password] which will enable these things until you log out.

Once this is in, after a grace period of two weeks, we will no longer reimburse stolen items ever. We will still ban thieves, but absolutely no reimbursements - if you are dumb enough to give someone access to your characters without guestlocking them, it's your own damn fault.

In addition to this, I will be disabling deletion of all characters above level 10 - accounts are free so there's really no reason to ever delete characters you spent any time on, and if you absolutely need to then you can contact a GM to have it done.

This is an awesome idea Wiz, thanks!

because I'm sure it will happen at some point, if someone guestlocks your account without permission, should you petition in game to have it reset, or is there some other venue?

also would it be possible to exclude no rent items from these restrictions, or too much work? If I guestlock my mage I want people to be able to use him without breaking their group/raid

GMs will have the ability to clear a guestlock, so you petition.

This sounds like a great idea, and I look forward to it.

Can you somehow limit the ability to not destroy things to items over xxx vendor value?
I'm thinking if someone leaves for an extended period and their char is in use by approved people but locked, eventually you're going to want to be able to destroy little things. As in I looted a spider leg and now its stuck in my inventory forever. Or I foraged an oak branch.

Also, i imagine you've thought of this, but how does this effect tradeskill combines? It isn't going to stop the reagents from being eaten up or anything, is it? =p

Then again I suppose ts combines might not matter.
If the char is guest locked, you can't send the result to anyone else anyway...

I'm not gonna differentiate based on value, they will just have to refrain from looting spider legs or whatever. TS combines will work normally.

Any way to link a guest lock w/ IP so the owner does not need to turn this on and off all the time?

Same command with password and all, just remembers IP it was locked on and allows that IP to act normally.

I'd rather not, we've had plenty of cases of siblings stealing from siblings etc. You can just hotkey it if trusting other people in your household is not an issue.

Just something to think about, how will you make the password settable? It wont be effective if its the account pw since the other people already know that.

Was thinking set a default and manage it through the registration thing on the website.

Acc Name
PW
ReEnter PW
Current GuestPW(leave blank the first time or default)

New PW
New GLock

If you happen to make both your login AND guestlock the same password, you still get nothing reimbursed, because thats just dumb.

Yea, that's actually a really good point. It also kinda puts us in the middle again, which I was hoping this idea would negate.
