I can log into the WR server, I can get my character created but once I hit next, I get a client crash. Tried a reboot, tried repatching through EQLive. No luck. I have only installed up to PoP, and nothing beyond. What can I do to fix this?

Install the hotfix -- it's all in the starting guide.

Thanks for the suggestion Homogenn. However, I installed the hotfix prior to my attempting to make a character, but still could not get past the character creation screen. Anything else it could be?

No. Try unzipped the hotfix in a folder and then manually copy the files.

I'm having the exact same problem.

I've downloaded the hotfix, unzipped it, put it in the default folder. But i still get a client crash. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm sorry to post again but it seems the thread got a little off topic.

I have had the same problem as Brastil. I can create a character no problem yet once I click next to get into the game, I can't advance past the second loading screen.

I first had problems with the patcher. I found out in the downloads section you can bypass the patcher and just download the files you need. So I have done that up to the current patch.

After that I downloaded the hotfix several times. On each time I also unzipped the files before I put them in the folders. First time I downloaded it straight to the default folder of the uifiles. Started the game created my character then the problem came up. Next time I put the files only in the folder uifiles. Still no luck. The third time I downloaded the files to my desktop then put them into the default folder of the uifiles. Still no luck. Forth time I downloaded the hotfix again to the desktop and put the files in the uifiles folder. And once again no luck.

I'm confused on where to go to from here. I don't know if I've done something wrong, or if things just aren't working. Any help would be much appreciated.

That's caused by the help.html being outdated, it should have been included in the hotfix. (which it is, I just checked)

I did see the help file in the hotfix and I also put that in all of the folders I said before. Maybe I just don't understand what you mean? In the hotfix is the help.html outdated?

If that is the problem, should I download the help file from

http://wintersroar.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2033&sid=82a839f131b58540d1c3eb692d48287f

or am i totally off?[/code]

Just an update. I did download the updated help.html file. I put it in all 4 folders again as before. I still got the same problem.

Not sure if this is it.. or already said

but i believe someone said they put it in default folder.. for me was C:/everquest (somethign like that)
but everquest is actually for me C:/program files/everquest

i actually have both so put the fix in both and i believe it solved the problem for me

maybe im just confused but is see people saying they put the help.html file in X number of folders. Doesn't it only need to go into ONE folder?

...\Everquest\help ??

if you unzip the hotfix, copy the folders it extracts ('help' and 'uifiles'), and paste them into ...\Everquest everything goes into the right place. You should get a prompt saying "So and So file already exists. Do you want to overwrite?" to which the correct answer is YES TO ALL.

If you don't understand the windows folder hierarchy system or that for a program to run properly you must put the files in the one place the program will look for it, say so. i or someone else can explain it for ya.

Thats what he has done several times. I got WR to work just fine and I have walked him through it like 20 times doing the hot fix and doing the UI file. We did everything in the walk through but for some reason it will not let him play the chracter he created. Still have not figured out what is wrong with his system

Ok Edge and I spent 4 hours trying to figure this thing out...amazingly we, well Edge figured out the problem.

I did everything correct, except the help file. The help file needed to be put into my help folder. No clue why, but that's what did it for me.

What is odd about this is that I put the hotfix into my EQ dir and it worked fine. I think some of the Instructions even say put it into your EQ dir and not your /help folder. After reading another set of instructions on the topic they said to put it into /help. Not sure why it works on some comps one way and diffrently on others. However, maybe this will help others who are having the same issue and prevent problems from accuring again.

well, just to point this out. maybe read deho's post before urs? it states how all you have to do is put all of it to go into eq folder and it will put the files in the proper folders. he also mentioned how the help file needs to go in the help folder. which happened to be the problem.

just thought id mention how reading his post there woulda made things a lil... easier.

Edge, i'm sure it worked for you because in inadvertently did it correctly. i'm quite sure it wouldn't have worked otherwise.

when it comes to patching software manually (cuz we're all so used to the auto-downloaders / patchers in today's world) it pays to be familiar with the way a program organizes itself. Sometime just for fun take a look at the different folders under the main Everquest folder. Explore into them to see what's inside of them. Don't necessarily mess with anything, but it'll give you a little knowledge of how to fix things when they break, or how to install custom stuff. In this case you'll notice that the hotfix extracts 2 folders. Looking at the contents of the main Everquest folder you will see that those same 2 folders already exist (along with others, of course). You'll also notice that the files inside the 2 hotfix folders also already exist inside the folders inside the main Everquest folder. (lost yet?) Thus, when you cut/copy and paste you are replacing the old with the new....also known as updating.

and i'm spent.
